Credit Card Offers Westpac Altitude Black offers: 120,000 Qantas or Velocity Points (expires 30/4/25)

Apologies if this has been answered earlier in this thread or elsewhere on the forum - I have a question on how Westpac's sign-on bonus exclusion period works with a Westpac Amex which I'm hoping someone can help clarify.

I currently hold the Westpac QFF Black MC + Amex bundle, and have received the separate sign-on bonus spends for both cards. I don't hold any other Westpac rewards cards. My plan is to close the Westpac MC soon, but hang onto the Amex while I serve out the 18 month bonus exclusion period on "proper" Amex cards.

Does anyone know whether closing the Westpac MC is enough for my 12 month bonus exclusion period to recommence? or would I have to close the Westpac Amex also?

It's a weird one because even though the card is Westpac branded, it's issued and serviced by Amex. It seems to sit in a bit of a no-mans land between the two organisations (which could be beneficial in my situation...)

Any advice appreciated!

It’s a good question.

With the Mastercard being the anchor card & the Amex not showing up on Westpac internet banking nor Westpac issuing QF points, I would say that this would work.

The latest offer also doesn’t require you to take up the Amex card, simply retain the MC for the secondary year which this is something we may see more of in the future.

One thing is if you retain the Amex, you’re up for the $199 AF whilst the question is how would they charge the Altitude Qantas fee of $50?

I think the Qantas fee is limited to the Westpac issued cards - the fee seems to be attached to the MC only going by the below breakdown.

Anyone know the contact details for the qantas reward points bonus department?

Its been 5 months since I met the minimum spend and I haven't received the bonus. I've called them up and the customer service didn't know anything.

Call the Altitude Rewards Centre on 1300 887 820 8am – 11pm (AEST), Monday to Sunday excluding National Public Holidays for this [they handle bonus points queries including QFF for Westpac].

I applied for this card mid feb and hit minimum spend in the first month. I'd waited 13 months to open since the last closure (confirmed via credit report and personal records). I didn't receive the bonus points and they claimed I hadn't waited 12 months and that my card was closed in April instead of Jan. After much arguing I finally was awarded the points, but just a note to that they can be dodgy on the 12 month waiting period.

I had a similar problem (albeit it was Altitude points) . The issue seemed to be within the points portal. I called up and was told that I hadn't completed the 12 month waiting period. I had a copy of my previous cancellation letter from Westpac which clearly showed I had satisfied the waiting period. The CSA said they would investigate and I got the points within 7 days. Definitely something to watch though.

My data point: I closed my westpac in Feb 2019 and reaplied 1st April, no issue, I got the bonus last week.

Would anyone know how long Westpac takes to credit the 90k QF bonus pts after $4k spend within 90 days usually?

(I know T&C's say 12 weeks just hoping it's sooner than that so it falls in my current QF year.)

End of 2nd statement for Mrs DrRalph recently.

Closed my account yesterday when I realised the annual fee had been charged. They refused a request for a reduction so I cancelled on the spot and got the fees refunded. Now to wait for the next offer.

Wasn't planning on getting a new credit credit until yesterday when this offer closed. Currently down to one St George card after ditching an AMEX earlier this year. My ambition on retirement was to have 1,000,000 QFF so this new Westpac card will get me close. We have longstanding Westpac business accounts, I had a personal sign in I was able to use. The approval quite quick, they ask you to log into your bank where your pays deposit so they can check this. I have a $2700 bill to pay late Nov and maybe a new IPhone to buy. Thanks to AFF for bringing this offer to my attention. With the ATO and pts on BAS payments, my Bank of Melb card was handy for these but I didn't chase ATO pts.

Has the Amex Westpac Altitude Black card been discontinued (ie the one issued by Amex directly that started up in place of the Westpac issued one when those interchange rules were modified)?
I can't see it on the Westpac and Amex websites.

Whoops, found this thread from December 2020:

Westpac is now offering bonus points once again on its Altitude Platinum & Altitude Black credit cards if you opt in to Altitude Velocity Rewards. Earn 60,000 bonus Velocity points with the Platinum or 120,000 points with the Black card. Annual fees are $200 & $300 respectively, including the annual Altitude Velocity program fee.

The 120k bonus points on the black card is made up of 90k points if you spend at least $4,000 within 3 months, and a further 30k points in the second year of holding the card.

The same bonus points are still available as Qantas points if you opt in to Altitude Qantas rewards with either card.

Looking at new Westpac offers, the Platinum card currently has a great offer, 130,000 altitude points for only $49.. equivalent to 43,333 KrisFlyer nikes or VA points.

Good little bonus point earner.

Am I eligible for this if I already hold a a qantas platinum altitude? The T&Cs are ambiguous...

No, because you have an Altitude Platinum. The rewards program you choose is irrelevant regarding the 12 month exclusion clause.

This part is clear:

Offer not available if you’ve held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 12 months. T&Cs apply.

Same with this:

>Bonus Altitude, Qantas or Velocity Points Promotion Altitude Platinum: To qualify for the bonus points you must apply and be approved for a new Altitude Platinum card between 24th June 2021 and 30th November 2021 and spend the minimum amount of $3,000 on eligible purchases on an Altitude Platinum card within 90 days from card approval in one or more transactions. Eligible purchases do not include interest, fees and charges, cash or ATM cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, gambling transactions, a purchase from or payment to a local, state or federal government or government related agency, BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay), refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account. The bonus points depend on your choice of Rewards Program. The bonus Altitude Points, Velocity Points or Qantas Points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks once you meet the eligible spend criteria. Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. Velocity Points or Qantas Points earned during a statement cycle are added to your Velocity or Qantas Points balance on a monthly basis.

You might have this and ANZ mixed up, where different rewards programs have different cards and systems altogether.

Not sure they are ambiguous. Why did you think so?

From what I can see they clearly state:

"Offer not available if you’ve held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 12 months. "
