Me too ..... Got 20K bonus, then they readjusted back to 10K only :(.... Oh well, have to spend another $3334 in Amex to make it up now :p

A rip off story for travellers:

On June 29 I used Westpac Amex Kris credit card to pay a U.S. hotel bill. ...
Using the XE - Credit Card Charges Calculator I get a Nett commission rate of 6.4%
Code:
Date on transaction receipt: June 29, 2009
Amount on transaction receipt: 720.38 USD
Mid-market rate for USD to AUD on 2009.06.29:
(Excluding bank charges) 1.24114 [*]
Value of transaction in your currency:
(Excluding bank charges) 894.09 AUD
Amount shown on credit card statement: 951.44 AUD
Your "hidden" fee estimate: 0.00 AUD ( 0.000% )
ACTUAL BANK FEES for this purchase: 57.35 AUD ( 6.414% )
[*1.24114 represents a rate of 80.5711¢ ...]

For those celebrating getting 20K....you may now find the mistake has been rectified and 10K deducted. :(

A tip for the future may be to not post such mistakes on a public forum.

Mine also gone, still I have got away with other "bonuses" in the past, as I'm sure have others, which I wouldn't crow about on here.

Thanks Serfty for the calculations.

I am in California not using the Kris flyer even though I am a Westpac shareholder.

6 per cent is really a cough deal so I thought our FF members should know.

Paid cash for the Chocolate Coated Strawberries last night.

I just got my card and the sup card from a branch today. I found it weird that I could collect the sup card without Westpac needing a record of the supp cardholder's signature on file. This is my first time applying a supp card for my family. I also realised that the card numbers on the sup card are the same as the principal card.. Are they meant to be the same? I used to apply supp card while i worked overseas and the supp card numbers were totally differently from the principal card's!

Not too sure if the payee will be suspicious when we charge on our cards separation but technically the same card numbers for our monthly deductions.

Supplementary cards with Westpac will have the same card number and expiry date.

so i just logged into krisflyer and noticed some points have come across from westpac, but only 640 points came across (and not a 10k points bonus), did anyone else find the 10k is credited later on?

The 10K first appeared as a separate amount on my Westpac Credit card end of month statement. The 10K bonus then appears as a separate post on the Krisflyer transactions.

Also, I've just returned from using the associated A|Club membership that is associated with the plat card. The nice people at Sofitel Sydney were very happy to arrange for me an early check-in and then a late checkout, a room upgrade, a comp. bottle of wine in the room on arrival plus two drinks at the bar while staying. With the occasional hotel stays that I do have during the year I'd now probably lean towards the Accor group as they actually do seem to have delivered with some benefits for the associated card holding.

Can you tell me a littel more about this? I checked the Westpac site to find some info re the Accor offer and can't find anything.

Thanks in advance, PW

A warning to those who transferred across from an existing Westpac CC - the points that should have accrued between the last points transfer date on your old card and the new card may not have been passed on correctly.

E.g. I was on a Earth card with QFF points and had about 1000 points worth of spend since the last QFF points transfer from Westpac.

When these balances were transferred to the KF card the KF points do not reflect the transferred balances. In addition no further QFF transfers were made because the Earth card is effectively cancelled when you transfer over to the KF card.

Any ideas how to recover these points?

Any ideas how to recover these points?

They are separate programs...and indeed QF and SQ are competitors!!

When closing a program it is best to "clean" it out first...or in the case of direct sweep to close it only after all points have been swept.

In my case I transferred out my Altitude points before I transferred.

In your case I can only suggest that you write to Westpac through their efficient on-line complaint form asking that the points you believe you earnt be transferred to QFF.

I performed two online transactions with USD, 1 on my krisflyer westpac platinum amex and one on my amex gold and came up with these fees:

1. Krisflyer: Actual bank fees: 5.45% (lower purchase value)
2. Amex Gold: Actual bank fees: 3.43% (higher purchase value)

Using the XE credit card fees calculator link that previously someone had posted.

My understanding is that if the value of the purchase is higher, then we end up paying a much higher fee with the westpac card. Perhaps, after Oct 31st, I will have to reevaluate which card to use.
