What card do you recommend?

Is there a good 1:1 Visa or MasterCard for earning Velocity points, without the high annual fee of the Virgin Money card?

I believe the ANZ Rewards Black earns Velocity points at 1:1 on Visa, but the annual fee of $375 does reflect this.

FWIW, an earn rate of around 0.5 to 0.75 Velocity points per dollar is definitely the norm on Visa/MasterCard.

Annual fee is free for the first year currently on this card. A great deal and is my primary card at the moment for accumulating Velocity points.

No, Anz only has either Qantas or ANZ points (which converts to about 2:1 Velocity points = 0.5 points / $ spent), then the Platinum Edge would be a better deal as you get 3 points per $ spent at major supermarkets etc and even tough you would have to convert them into Velocity points, it would be at the same ratio and you would in the end actually get 1.5 points / $ spent. That is if I am understanding it right....

Someone recommended me the Priceline Platinum Edge as it is free for the first year. I would post a link too, but I wasnt allowed to. Just check the start of the thread.

QANTAS, please. :p

LOL

I have ever only flown Qantas once... Check-in was a pain, computers were down, took over 2 hours in a queue, but they were forgiven as they upgraded me to first class :D Best flight ever! But no, now days I tend to stick to SiA if I can :)

Not correct RoseAnna. ANZ rewards card is 2 rewards points per dollar which converts to 1 VFF point per dollar on Visa. Note this is only for new customers.

Although the Velocity Flyer has quite a few offers on (including a long balance transfer offer), they are due to devalue to 0.66/$ (capped then down to 0.5) in April.

From April they will also change from the 2x 2-for-1 domestic flights to a $149 VA flight voucher-likely to be less good but both offset the fee

You will definitely need a complementary Visa or MC for when Amex is not accepted if you want to maximise points

Definetly!

I applied and got approved for my first ever credit card. Decided to go with the Platinum Velocity as it would give me a bonus 50,000 VPoints after $500 spending plus a free flight. It kind of justifies the cost of $349 a year, but it will be good to start with, then I will decide if I keep it or not.
In a few months I will see if I can compliment it with an Edge as it is cheaper, gives me more points on my spendings and still a free flight.

In the mean time I still have my Visa just in case even though it doesnt give me points...

I will definitely need a bigger wallet....

Good stuff. I thought the current promo was 80,000 points though?

congrats!! :)

i haven't bought a single thing on a credit card in the last 5 years without getting points for it...i'd rather eat my own pinky finger

I wouldnt either :D Have to make things work for you ;)

This one was merely 50,000 but it is Velocity points rather then Amex or ANZ points, thats why I chose it. I can easily transfer it to KF if I want to.... leaning towards that as I want to go J class to the US next year :)

Please dont tell me I lost out on 30,000 points... gonna make me cry :D

Ah you are right. Looks like you just missed out, was definitely 80,000 just recently. Hope you used one of the referral links on this site!

Actually I double checked and through the referral offers it appears it is still 80,000 points.
