What cheeses me off

You don't realise how great we have it in Australia until you start dealing with businesses in other countries.

Everything in Thailand is deception.

We're buying bedding set for daughter's room.

- that one not include mattress
- this one include mattress
- that one not include mattress

Nothing on the signs. They make it up as they go along.

Ok, well have this queen bed. Oh sorry this display model is last one in stock. But 5 minutes ago you said you had stock. Sorry this the last one. So how much you discount floor stock. No discount. Really. This is cracked, this broken but no discount.

Ok, we'll have this king bed. She says they'll include mattress and ups the price. Ok, no problem.

Wife goes to pay and shows me receipt to check. Sweetie, this in Thai. She starts checking and notices the lady wrote down 5' foot (queen) not 6' foot (king) on receipt. Goes back and lady puts an x on the 5 and writes 6 and will update computer later.

Do I look stupid? Write out a new receipt with 6' foot bed.

By the way this not isolated incident. Every dealing we have with builders and stores is the same. Huge headache...

I would have said the same but my wife is doing all the negotiating and everything is in Thai. Still can't believe the tricks they try.

By the way I bought a "new" phone in Hua Hin 3 years ago, ~900 baht or AUD40 for my brother. Old basic phone. Junk. Non functional but packaged as if new. I can't believe they try these tricks.

Last trip wanted to get screen protector for my S21 and my daughters tablet. Wife said let's do it in one of the smaller malls near village. Youngish lady did my daughters tablet. Totally stuffed it up. Took it off and went away and I thought she got another screen protector and put it on tablet. Also did my phone. Didn't do a detailed check and paid 380 baht + 100 baht.

A day later noticed cracks all over my daughters screen protector. That weasel used the same screen protector she took off when she stuffed it up. Looked at my phone and that's a poor job too. Went to the bank a week later and my wife had a huge run in with that weasel. We use this mall quite a lot and we have to make sure we go nowhere near the phone section.

Booked private car last night from DMK to Pattaya. 1700 baht including tolls of around 200 baht. The driver did everything to avoid tolls so he can pocket the money. Even the compulsory toll on the motorway he cut short to save some money. I gave him 100 baht but should have given nothing and reported to him to his boss.

I don't want to deal with these people. If you're going to do anything here do not (DO NOT) put any trust in them. Check. Double check. Triple check and check again. Awful service is everywhere. This is why I'm going to do the rest of things on my house myself as I don't trust them.

Geez that's a really bad run. All the best with the house

What cheeses me ………… Airlines who sell J fares but then don’t provide PRIORITY bag tags - guess the airline? Hint - starts with JET ends with STAR

I'm not a fan of having to change passwords regularly but it's worse when forced to change password and then not being able to reuse an old password.

Tried logging into SQ a couple of days ago. Password didn't work. Tried a few variations and they didn't work either.

Forced me to request an email with password reset. Typed in the password I typed earlier and got an error message that I cannot reuse previous passwords. Now I've got a password that I will not remember.

Are they storing old passwords somewhere? That is really silly? Let me choose a password I want to use and can remember.
I saw a joke that you should use as your password 'passwordincorrect' so it reminds you every time

Here is an interesting one I encountered more often on past trip.

Notice more and more people eating with mouth open, smacking lips over and over, turning food over in open mouth and making disgusting noises.

But if you a toothpick you must cover your mouth as it is rude to show teeth.

Seriously? I still laugh when I think about it.

What really cheeses me off is these rich, climate change activists, for example Leonardo Dicaprio, Lewis Hamilton - telling us 'plebs' we should be reducing our carbon footprint....
BUT on the other hand, they fly in around the world in their private jets, fancy gas guzzling cars.
Ill also add some climate change fanatics at work - ok, if you believe in climate change, then lead the way and set the example - stop flying to Bali twice a year on holidays, buy a electric car, sell your 50 square house which consumes heaps of energy....
When i mention this to them, I just get blank stares - their attitude is 'its not my climate emergency, its everyone elses'....
Hmm, electric cars are BAD for climate change.

I think the balance on that has flipped back to being a positive now, as long as you don't offload a perfectly good internal-combustion car to get an EV. If you wait 'til your old car wears out, then choose an EV over an ICE car, that's a net positive for the environment.

It's the waiting until the old car wears out that most don't wanna do ... they just want to get an EV & blow away other people at the lights ...

Maybe at an individual level.
But from a whole population/world fleet level EVs are a disaster waiting to happen. The batteries are seriously bad, increase mining and are extremely toxic.

just my opinion

Listen to this AFR Podcast re EV recycling. An Australian Company planning 15 years in advance.

Listen to this AFR Podcast re EV recycling. An Australian Company planning 15 years in advance.

As I said, highly toxic process. Where does the toxic waste go?

Remember we're aiming for a fleet of 20.1 million in Australia alone. Saying recycling is possible, doesn't actually help with the minor details like the utterly overwhelming scale of the problem. I don't know about you, but my last ICE car was still going fine when I sold it 15 years after it was made. My lithium ion phone battery on the other hand, has a life of a couple of years.

These renewables dreams don't really stand up to basic analysis. Like saying you can recycle wind turbine blades. 1) the recycling of wind turbine blades is only the metal, the fiberglass is either burnt or sent to landfill, and 2) they mostly don't bother recycling.

so how many batteries will actually be recycled?

Edit: Podcast = Demand for lithium 18 times, Cobalt 5 times higher by 2030. Li 60 times, Co 15 times higher by 2050. This is the scale of the problem, and the podcast totally agrees demand for resources will be massive. Massive increase in mining, to convert 1.4 billion vehicles worldwide to EV.

Recycling cannot be 100%, there will be lost materials, that's basic physics. EVs are not sustainable. In my opinion

And that is the end of my off topic.

Builder says we have to take time to do the best job.
<RANT>

This !!! OMG! similar sitch in India as well. Parents are building something in MAA and the people working in the project don't like each other (regional/language politics) and keep pushing deadlines ... one person says "this" date and the other person says "that" date ... and in the end, they come back and put it on the owners that "if you want the job to be done well, you need to give us time" .... and we're like "well, you said that it would be done by a certain date and we have people coming to inspect to buy the properties" and knowing the potential buyers, who are *super* pumped and interested to purchase from us, are not able to because the construction takes forever ... and honestly, it's NOT like there is a supply issue for construction materials in India either ... there are plenty of stuff, just need to the right people to bring it all together. Luckily, the builder we have engaged is efficient in getting workers to do their work ... Also, my parents (& I) to a certain extent speak a few languages, so it's not very painful to get people to do stuff ... Jeez, we pay them a lot of money to get the construction going ... roughly $300,000 in AUD is huge in India for a construction project size we are doing in MAA ...

What cheeses me off … when customers don’t let the staff in the liquor store know if they accidentally dropped a case of wine and a few bottles have broken and leaking liquid, instead aforementioned customers hastily make the purchase and exit the store quickly. It’s ok that bottles break when you handle it, but pls let the staff know, so that we can clean it asap before the spill or broken glass become a hazard for other customers & staff ... Worst is the bottles have broken and the spill was across 2 aisles. It was a busy evening (thanks to the long weekend) and there were people walking around (& some customers walking over the spill, unaware) the spill, which is absolutely unsafe ...

Wine in question : Lobster Reef Sav Blanc. The only good thing from the spill was that there was a crisp green apple, guava & pear smell wafting in the aisles for sometime 🤣 🤣 🤣

what cheeses me off … due to the aforementioned incident few more boxes of wines are also water damaged and had to be cleaned, inspected - an extra work when we are short staffed (again, thanks to the long weekend, some staff called in "sick")
