What cheeses me off

What cheeses me off - when a customer says, rather rudely, abruptly that & I quote "I don't want you to touch the bottle, I will scan the bottle myself", which is fine, only if customers can access the employee side of the register, which they can't ...

I'm not sure what the customer's intentions were, but I guess, if they thought the merchandise is shipped, stored & displayed in a sterile container and that it is safer if they ONLY handle the merchandise, I've got news for them ;)

.... Thai logic.

Travel has only just started to pick up but it's actually not picking up as they would hope

- Wife/daughter stay in coughet and Chiang Mai in March/April and hotels dirt cheap
- Pattaya and Chiang Mai May/June and some nice bargains around
- Pattaya and Chiang Mai August/September and rates have gone up but can still find some bargains
- Pattaya and Chiang Mai October/November and bargains have gone, many lower end hotels have doubled rates

I have checked for Christmas/New Year and April next year and rates are ridiculous.

There are not that many tourists.

- In June they were saying it will pick.up August/September
- In August/September tourist numbers lower and saying it will pick up November

I'll see in a couple of weeks but I don't think tourist numbers are up. People still reluctant to travel and why would you when SQ return airfare is $2000+.

You can't magically make up the lost profits from the pandemic. If you want to entice people prices have to remain low.

Taking precautions?
Perhaps ... and I understand, it would've been a normal interaction if the customer was just polite. There are nicer ways to say things and the way the customer spoke yesterday was not nice ... :) But as the saying goes "customer is king" and "the customer is always right" (I mean, not always, but they like to think that they were) ;)

Check out people at stores that ask you if you want a receipt like it’s an option because when you go to walk out the store they ask to see your receipt. 🤷‍♀️

When the moment the plane is stationary people spring out of their seat
(even though clearly no one is going anywhere) and then the same idiots that do that are the ones that wait until half the plane is empty and they are blocking the isle, to then retrieve overhead baggage and hold everyone up in the process !

In the UK larger supermarkets offer three ways to pay. Scan as you shop - You scan the bar codes as you put things in the trolley and then pay at a machine. Self Service - similar but you scan each item yourself at a self service cash register. Or old fashioned - Queue for a check out assistant.

In the UK if you have to actually go to a cashier its unusual to have to wait behind more than one or two other customers. There is also a sense of urgency and people start to get a bit unhappy if they have to wait.

In France both our local supermarkets have self service machines but often they are closed. Our local Auchan has maybe 10 check out lanes but its normal for only 2 or 3 to be open.No one complains. There might be ten people in the queue. No one complains. The person at the front of the queue might decide that they have forgotten something and just leave their trolley to go and find it. So the queue just stops moving. No one complains. The cashier might decide they need something..new receipt roll, change, cup of coffee and a croissant and just leave the register. No one complains.

They say that the Brits like to queue...they have nothing on the French. In the UK if someone got to the cash register and then left their trolley because they had forgotten something they would be dragged of and beaten. Well no not really but there would be lots of muttering and complaining.

At Bunnings last week the person checking receipts watched me leaving, so I stopped after I'd gone past and asked if she'd like to see the receipt... "Yes of course"
Proceeds to look at receipt, does not bother looking at what I was actually taking out of the store.

There's also an option to have the receipt SMS'd instead of printed.. don't really see the point of having someone at the doors.

This was Chemist warehouse. I'd asked him about where click and collect was and it was the front counter. Huge queue. I'd also bought some vitamin pills and paid for them. Then he wanted to look inside my tote bag. I had a separate sealed click and collect bag. I had the receipt for the vitamins in my hand (after being asked if I wanted one). I get the security thing but as I'd obviously paid for something it was pointless.

Same in our local Woolworths. It's a nationwide trial. I used to to scan and go but was asked at the exit for their random check three times in a row (this isn't manned and you have to wait for someone to take out five random times to see if they'd been scanned) so I gave up and do self serve checkout.

We have that random check thing were you have to have five items scanned. Pepsi max was on offer and all flavours were the same price. I picked up a regular and a cherry and rather than scanning one of each I scanned the regular twice. Of course this happened the time I was randomly chosen to have five items checked. The assistant was fine she knew they were the same price but the system made her re scan everything in the trolley and for the next 5 or so visits to the store if I used scan and go I was stopped each time.

In France intermarche and Carrefour have barriers at the exit of the self service machines area and you have to scan your receipt before the barriers open. The French supermarkets are always suspicious of people who walk in and out without buying anything.

Any day at Carrefour ... :)

…………. is when you go to a restaurant / cafe for brekky and order scrambled eggs on toast which are then delivered to you with 2 wrapped pats of butter on side of plate! Like WTF? Am I going to somehow magically levitate these eggs - butter the toast - reposition eggs on top? FFS - butter it first please
