What cheeses me off

I don't know why I keep paying for buffet breakfast. Not good for my health and no need to witness uncivilised people with no idea of etiquette or how to interact with others.

Guy sitting at one table eating full plate of food with fingers. Another lady with husband next to her picking up onion rings and putting them back. Surely common sense is to use the huge utensils provided? Nah.

I hope I'm safe.

I'm pretty sure Australia has a diversity of landscapes mate

Christmas in the US, particularly in the colder states, is truly magical. All the lights, trees, people out ice-skating and shopping and strolling snow-covered streets.

Yeah mate it's a bit different when it's 40 degrees and still light at 8pm

Yes. He does write a lot of drivel sometimes. This is an example.

I didn't like most of the list. What he mentions has a place in US. But here's some news, Australia has a unique culture, we don't need to become even more "US lite". He also talks about the "general friendliness" of Americans - like in Australia it depends on where you are. I reckon your average Sydneysider is friendlier than the average New Yorker 😂

Examples:

"Sport as Spectacle". No need for all the dancers, entertainment etc, very un-Australian. If you want razzmatazz at your sporting game, visit the US instead.

"Pop Culture Icons" - come on, 13x the population, 13+ x the icons. It's maths pure and simple.

"Mature approach to drug laws" - Whilst I don't disagree with legalisation of some drugs, keep it in the home. For years activist fought for cleaner, less smelly air from industries, open sewers and the like. Now the air is ripe with the stench of weed in places like NYC, San Francisco, etc.

"lack of cynicism" - one of the things I like about Australia is general cynicism. It keeps a check on our political leaders, and those in the media.

We experienced a NH Christmas last year. Our first. And last. Never ever again.
Why? Because of the weather and short days? I've had a few NH Christmas and would do it again in a heartbeat

yes. It didn't get light until around 8.30am and then darkening in around 4pm so staying inside isn't our kind of thing. Host watched years old UK test matches. I struggled not to fall asleep. I realised that other members had escaped to their rooms for a sleep but we werent staying overnight. No snow. Just damp cold dark miserable.

Now, now most tourists who met me in NYC thought New Yorkers were very friendly. Mind you we had a time share there so spent a little more than 2 years there on and on. After a while I looked like a local with my long black coat and not carrying a camera. We got to know many locals and they were very friendly.

I've been in this hotel room for 3 nights. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary until just now.

I've been working today so only went to breakfast in morning for 15 minutes and in room all day. About to go out and do some laundry and locked the door and checked to see if door locked and door opens. Try again to lock and door opens.

Someone came round and we've managed to get door to lock but someone needs to fix properly in morning.

This is happens in cheap hotels in urgent need of maintenance/renovations.

Had similar in a Mantra recently. Door did not electronic latch unless pulled shut. During a 4 day stay I came back to find housekeeping had visited and done their thing and the door could be pushed open.
