What cheeses me off

Im struggling today with a friend who is holidaying in a 3rd world country and her daily pictorials include children scrambling in the dirt or other children working at adult jobs (making bricks ect).

I struggle with people using social media pics of children/minors for clicks. It may be pictorial but she's not exactly reporting for Time magazine so its just an invasion of privacy and poor cough for me
Sound very like a current pretend "royal" tour of third world countries?

Young ones who gain publicity for discovering things that every generation prior knew about already but don't broadcast themselves on social media for their knowledge.

Last night on ABC news there was a story of a young clinical nurse in charge of premmie babies. She made the discovery, only after having her child, that reading to the infant promotes bonding and language development. Our EA had a great saying, 'no sh$t Sherlock'. She has decided as a result of her discovery 🤢 to encourage her patients family by giving them books to read. She said she was sick of seeing parents at the ward on their phones. No judgement there hey? Give the parents a break.

The lawless world of international banking ... undisclosed undocumented random "intermediate bank fees" that appear 6 weeks after you do a bank to bank transfer. And this is from one Singapore bank to another Singapore bank (but in USD, which is why the intermediate bank, probably located in the Caymans 😂 , is needed). In addition to ones that are taken straight away and disappear from the balance you transfer.

Yes the old intermediate bank scam. Used to be common where someone would pay for a product from European bank and it would go through at least one intermediary who all charged excess fees. By the time we received the funds it would be less than half the price for the product. Total scam. FA on can do about it.

What cheesed me off particularly was that I did the same transfer between the same banks 6 months earlier and there was no charge, other than the $5 USD deduction from the received balance. This time had that same $5 and this additional charge ($30USD) levied on the outbound bank.

Not a biggy but it's the principle!

But sometimes the reasons are not for clicks but to inform people as to what is needed. Back in 2007 We did a trip to Chang Mai and Chang Rai with friends. I certainly posted pictures of the poverty and in particular the schools- no students were present. But there were pictures of children outside in obvious poverty.
In 2009 we went back to Laos and did our little bit to help the schools.

I know that at least one other on AFF supports Laotian businesses.

Back again in November, stocked up with pens, reading glasses and I’ll try to get some books for school kids as well. Always take caps and lanyards from various rallies we have been to over the years and of course out to the dairy to support what they are doing to help local kids. I guess it's the preferred means of communication now.

Growing up (in the 70s and 80s), my mum used to have morning tea every weekday morning with the neighbours. My grandmother would spend at least one day a week (if not more) going around town, popping in to different friends and family for a cup of tea, and no doubt a gossip.

I really really hate this stupid game airlines are playing right now.

2nd Jan 2025 looks to be one of the busiest days flying in Thailand. Only a few flights left on Thai Lion Air and Nok Air CNX-DMK and these are not cheap. We are booked on the 1:00pm from CNX arriving DMK 2:25pm or thereabouts.

Stunned to receive email today that we have been moved to 5:00pm flight. That's a huge inconvenience and cancelling is not an option as there are no alternatives.

Check Thai Lion Air website and they still have the 11:00am, 1:30pm, 3:40pm, 5:00pm 6:00pm and 10:00pm flights for sale.

Why the hell would you move us to the 5:00pm when the 1:30pm has seats or even the 11:00am and 3:40pm flights are closer to our original departure. Now wife will have to call them early tomorrow to try and get us on a more suitable flight.

Airlines cannot possibly care about their customers. DMK is not our final destination as we are heading down to Pattaya and at this rate we won't be there until 10:00pm pretty much wasting a whole day.

Yes but we didn't announce to all and sundry how clever we were for working out something that everyone knew anyway.

Did you find out what it was Veeps?!? Or did Dr interrupt their diatribe? Deustch MiddleAisleFever is a thing you know😂
No it was a degreaser I think. She was going to buy some for the person she was talking to because it was so good and she always has a spare just in case they don’t have any. It was a very busy waiting room for lots of ophthalmologists so sadly I was torn away for yet another test. I did ask my specialist if I could have new lens inserted because my cataracts were so long ago that I was starting to have to wear glasses a bit and waffled and talked about the risks. I said to him you can just say suck it up if you want and he said okay suck it up bye. 😂

Another 'how did we do' survey. This time Petbarm. I walked into the store. Selected the cat food I needed, walked to the counter, paid, walked out.
