What cheeses me off

Do they charge international transaction fees and international ATM withdrawals

As mentioned already - No and no (except if the local ATM charges a fee)

I'm looking forward to trying it as I start to move myself off my "charge everything to Amex" routine...

The 3% FX fee and the conversion from whatever currency to USD and then AUD can't be good either.

For the sake of a few rewards points, which I may or may not redeem in the future, I'd rather save the cash now :)

Hopefully the card arrives before I leave in 2 weeks

If you want the points should get a Bankwest credit card for overseas. Points plus no foreign exchange fee. Best of both worlds.
Or CBA if your regular spend is higher

CBA has 'paused' it $3 fee.

Commonwealth Bank pauses new $3 charge amid backlash

Commonwealth Bank will pause for six months its decision to charge some customers a $3 fee for cash withdrawals.

CBA head of retail banking services Angus Taylor acknowledged in a conference call on Wednesday that the bank had “done a poor job of communicating aspects of this change to users”.

The suspension will enable the bank to consult with affected customers about their accounts before any charge is implemented.

"Poor job of communicating ... " FFS. Just a bunch of bankers.

When my passport isn’t where it’s supposed to be! 😳

Fortunately my heart skipped a beat or five yesterday and not this morning as I’m about to leave.

I’d put it into the wrong bed side drawer…discovered after ripping all three drawers out and rummaging around while thinking how quick can I get to the PP office for the $5m 24hr replacement service…

People with umbrellas who only consider what happens with their umbrella spikes in front of them, not behind or to the side of them.

People with umbrellas who stand in front of someone in a poncho and don't consider they are now blocking the view of said poncho wearer.

These were my thoughts on West 35th St last week, as people clamoured on a rainy morning to try to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

A bit like wearing backpacks while standing on trains….

HESTA bloody super. I've been a great fan of them in the past but today that changed. As a small business we also pay employee super. Have done into HESTA for years. Today. Just how many days before Christmas and usual Business shut downs, they send an email to employers telling them that as of January 13th their method of accepting contributions is changing and they've got into bed with one the big banks and are now using their platform to lodge contributions. Requires establishing an account, setting up each employee again (TFN, address, years of service blah blah) each business and so on. A very different platform and all needing to be done before the next Super SG is due in mid January. The amount of detail needed is stunning, and they will not transfer anything over from the existing data base. Work experience or post schoolies brain drain?

People who are first at the lights and when the lights go green they turn on their indicator to turn right.

People who leave a car length between them while waiting at lights so people can't get into LH or RH turn lane

Rant over
Was going to post this as soon as I walked in today. Fella in front of me drove up to a right side intersection today, suddenly stopped and then put his indicator on. The air horns got a work out...not in any anger but it sure tells them to think about what they are doing.

Been thinking about changing for a while, but it's all too difficult.

Even more annoying is that the account pays 0% interest.
While you are thinking about it you can at least open a CBA NetBank Saver account 5.10% introductory special rate for 5 months, and move money between your accounts in the app easily.

After the introductory period the rate drops to 2.75% so there are other accounts to consider at that point.

What the media has totally missed and the CBA conveniently ignores is that CBA says it is also closing all 'Complete Access' accounts, an account type that is no longer available, The Complete Access is probably the transaction account type that most of those people. like myself, that use cash have, because it was the standard transaction account for many years. Those with Complete Access accounts will be switched to a "Smart Access" account which has a monthly fee and pays ZERO interest. The "Complete Access" has no fees and the account pays interest on a daily basis.

So CBA are happy to hold the cash, that they lend out at 3+ times the rate they pay, but want a monthly fee and to pay zero interest, for the privilege of providing a place to park the cash.

I hope the seniors vote with their feet and find a bank that recognises it has a social agenda to meet, as well as an obligation to shareholders and their own bonus plans.

Seniors copping it a bit in the last few days so my turn to have a go at the young who often have no manners and completely absorbed by self.
Yesterday had a walk around Buderim Meadows. Easy as many shared walkways and cycle ways. And they often had big arrows on the left side indicating that you should keep left. No such thing with the young riding their bikes and scooters invariably on their right and headed towards me at high speed so I felt compelled to move out of their way.
But the prize went to the young woman doing a right hand turn into a car park. I was in a pedestrian crossing. S he didn't slow down before making the turn and put her right hand up to signal me to stop. I had already stopped as i worked out that to continue walking meant serious injury.

All I took from this was 'woman driver' rather than young people - so looks like the problem here are the women!

;)

WCMO is going away over December and having to leave the raspberries in full production. The neighbours are looking after the garden and get 'picking rights', also for the blueberries, peaches and nectarines when they start. Hopefully tomatoes, capsicums and carrots won't be ready until I get back.

Got 500g raspberries today so at least one nice bowl with cream and icing sugar and a big pour over the All Bran in the morning.

Seems to me that decision is entirely in your hands. ;)

I think it is a requirement of the Guvment super reforms. One part of that is a requirement that super contributions (the funds transfer and contribution notice) are paid electronically - called Superstream

Westpac operates a super contribution gateway called QuickSuper. It is the only such Gateway in Australia. My industry super fund has used QuickSuper for employer contribution for years.

"Welcome to the future"

Have you noticed the ATO changes to online services user verification including changes to the webpage to access the ATO activity statement portal?. They don't give clear instructions. I really think the mob that works in the ATO webpage UI have never had to use it.

At least Xero can lodge the BAS directly to ATO from within the application so you don't have to go into the ATO portal.

One part of that is a requirement that super contributions (the funds transfer and contribution notice) are paid electronically
and most importantly in the same period that the income is earned.

If this was a requirement when compulsory super started we would all have much healthier balances.

WCMO is for decades, employers in many cases were taking 3-12 months to actually deposit your super earnings (in the mean time they earned interest on your money that they were holding onto instead of you earning a return or using it to cover other expenses).

That is why when many companies fail, employees lose out on their entitlements because their former employer was legally allowed to delay making the deposit to super and also wasnt holding enough cash to cover leave balances.
