What cheeses me off

That would solve some of the problems but will introduce other what cheeses me off.đź‘Ť

I think what you are saying is the "no win situation" really cheeses you off...:)

Would suggest there are many other ways re "expenses"

Yes. OTOH are there any non smart phones?
Mum had one. It made phone calls! That's it. We have several Nokias hanging around at home.

Did mine with my accountant last night and I'm feeling very very deflated and down ... After paying a lot of tax (IT contractor on TFN, 2 casual jobs on the side, Single & no dependents), I still owe the ATO at least $5k ... I'm like seriously! And I don't do unnecessary expenses, so do not have a huge bill that could be used for tax deduction etc ... feeling very bad honestly ...

My accountant explained that I should feel *happy* that I'm contributing to the economy blah blah ... but I'm like seriously dude, WT!!!!

I understand & acknowledge that the tax that I paid doesn't even scratch the surface of the tax the other folks here in AFF pay ... but for me, it was a really BIG $$$ ... Funnily, my agent also mentioned that if I had not worked in one of the casual roles, I would have got a refund of at least $9k!

I feel so deflated that my regulars at CBR asked me if I was doing ok!?!?!
You work in IT.
Any chance when you travel there are technology forums/conferences equipment launches in cities you go to as part of continuing professional development (hotels/food/travel and transfer deductions). There may be other areas to look at

Doesnt need an app, just 2FA which is a SMS. Even non-smart phones can receive sms (as its is delivered over telco not as a data service).
To use ATO portal I have to log into MyGov app and accept a code.

What cheeses me off is password sets/resets where they don't tell you the PW rules until you haven't complied, then they tell you.
Yes yes and yes!

Black texta on the screen?
But then someone quotes the person you've blocked and you see their post!

But My Gov itself doesnt need an app. I only use MyGov via computer browser to get to medicare to print covid vax certificates for travel, and all that is needed is to type in a sms code; perhaps at some point you opted to use an app instead? Or maybe its because you are doing business taxes via ATO site? My Gov is actually separte to ATO, although starting point for ATO and Medicare is MyGov.

There are 2
MyGov which your account for govt services and has a 2FA via SMS
MyGovID is an identifier app but is not the account and which does not require SMS. This is important for people with no mobile reception - especially people in rural and remote Australia. This one is much better.

I have to use MyGov ID to log into the business accounts with ATO site. I have to accept a code on MyGovID that pops up on the ATO site and once I've logged in and typed that code in MyGovID app, I can then return to ATO website where I'm now logged in, to proceed with what I need to do. MyGov yes, 2FA via text. Medicare and the like.

Try getting a Director's ID without a MyGovID.

SWMBO, can't get a strong enough identity as her passport has been expired for too long and our (Vic,.) Marriage certificate was before 2002.

MyGov ID on my phone is stronger than the one on my iPad. Same person same account. 🤷‍♀️

Not unusual. Mine went through simply and easily but I had to call them up to get ID for MrsTMA. Surprisingly quick and easy.

I’ve definitely used “an” ATO portal, maybe not “the current” ATO portal, by logging into the MyGov site on my PC. Admittedly not for 18-ish months, so maybe it changed?
