What cheeses me off

People who stand on crowded public transport when there is a seat available. Like wall-to-wall crowded, and people still trying to get on, but men - and it usually is men - who ‘refuse to sit’.

CGU are giving refunds for insurance errors going back years. My mother has been dead for nearly 10 years and they are putting me through hoops to prove stuff so they can give me a refund. On hold for 45 minutes - says go to our website and use webchat because it will be quicker (yep webchat not available) Commitment on the website they will respond to emails within 2 business days. (First was on the 3rd January then 2nd March and 6th March and still no response to emails)

You could overlook the fact a parent was deceased and advised call centre you are said holder. It has been known ….

I could but I have given them her death certificate so it would be hard to back track now. They are just so damned incompetent.

A colleague (male) used to ring the electricity company and say he wanted to modify the account and they would ask his name and he always answered with his wife's name and then her DOB and he said the reaction was priceless

Yeah … that’s actually a little bit of a reverse ism of some sort.
It’s crowded & sitting down would be more comfortable so it’s a bit rude to assume that you are the most deserving of it.

On crowded transport I'd prefer to stand, as it prevents that awkward encounter when you're sitting and someone else might need it more, they say they're fine etc...

I'd rather just be up and leave the seat free for those people.

Plus - have you not heard sitting is the new smoking? Much healthier to stand.

So you’d rather someone misses the tram or train because someone standing beside an empty seat won’t sit?

I think it might be a difference in the train designs of SYD and MEL. That situation doesn't really happen in SYD, there's enough people who want to sit who go and sit, and people standing near the doors have enough room for people to move past and go upstairs / downstairs to the seating.

I wouldn't stand up/downstairs if there was a seat. But I make a conscious decision to stand and remain near the doors.

It’s a case of who’s going to be the greedy & lazy person who takes the seat first … taking the seat before the elderly lady with the walking-stick is worse than the person outside you can’t even see!

I do have a question though; is this a Thing again in Melbourne, post-COVID? I had 3wks off work until 2wks ago, and caught PT a lot in Sydney … me & the tumbleweeds.

It's similar when my dad died and he was a believer in the male having everything in his name. So of course, just as in Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, when she tried to get the Telstra account into her name she had to jump through hoops. His estate didn't need probate so it was all done and dusted so when Telstra put up a fuss she said fine, there's no money in his name so if you won't cancel it that's your problem not mine.

Little old lady with walking stick is not common during peak hour! And we have priority seats by the doors which are pretty much adhered to by everyone. So if little old lady appears, she sits!

it’s the seats halfway into the carriage or space… people standing around but empty seats, people crowded at the doors, and those waiting to get on left behind.

I observed it today and it was… annoying!

Actually quite a big difference in train design.

Sydney's Waratah trains seat about 900 for a capacity of 1300 (400, or 30% standing)*

Melbourne's HCMT trains seat about 500 for a capacity up to 1600 (1100, or 69% standing). Melbourne's Nexas is 522 for a capacity of 1584 (1062, or 67% standing)

*Interestingly the peak capacity for Waratah is considered 1300 for normal peak, but 2100 for "single destination / event" services. That still gives the seating a much higher percentage than Melbourne's.

Trying to sign up for an account with Superhero. They requested one form of ID from the 3 to chose from. Chose DL and completed, it then took me to Medicare card, ok done that too, then Passport details - so did that too. Then Superhero bot said that they could not identify me from all that information and needed to contact them via chat. I felt I may have been scammed! Have not followed up.

Booking two theatre seats and each one has a separate booking fee. The first mob that abolishes this booking fee and includes in the ticket price will be positively noticed.
