What cheeses me off

The official warranty may not mean anything. One or two years for a fridge may be what the seller offers, but well short of your consumer rights.

I had a dishwasher fixed free of charge over 7 years outside of the manufacturer’s warranty, but still covered (for free) under my consumer rights.
Warranty offered is irrelevant to the provisions of the act.

Set the rules of engagement (if they are worth it for the end result but the nutters just never see me again.

I will sometimes say - really sorry - had a family crisis this week but don't want to talk about it (or I may cry)…. I need to finish this book as seeing friend who gave it to me on weekend…

If I thought she was worth it I would try that but she's not and I know this sounds like I'm a snob but she's just not that intelligent and I don't want to engage with her

My hairdresser and I have set topics - a couple of TV shows we both watch, gossip re the local cafes/restaurants and where our next trip is to (or where I have travelled since last time I was there). Never any need to delve into personal issues.

My previous barber would continue speaking even after i‘d taken my hearing aids out. He’d get annoyed that I couldn’t remember what number blade to use and wasn’t willing to write it down. He was arrogant and sexist to his wife, who incidentally gave better cuts. My new barber is better skilled, has a record of my requests and is understanding of hearing impairment.

Just do as I do. Go to a barber. He does the hair in less than 10min including paying the bill (normally 6-7min). Not enough time for chit chat
I agree, although when I lived in Adelaide, I was tipped off about a hairdresser, who did really good men’s cuts. Quick, simple & to the point, I think she enjoyed the break from having the complex servicing of her regular clients.

OK, if we are doing haircut stories - what really cheesed me off when I lived in a rural town in Québec was when I went to the barber, sat down in the chair and he put the drape around me. I only then discovered that he only had the use of one arm and used an electric clipper for just about everything -sort of like a hedge trimmer.

After that, it was Montréal, no matter how long it was between visits there.

My last hairdresser before I moved had a sign up saying words to the effect of "Discussing COVID is not permitted".

If I find a chatty hairdresser, I just close my eyes. ;)
