What cheeses me off

Given that BPAY is owned by the 4 Aussie major banks, and Latitude 28 Degrees is a 3rd party not surprising there is a charge to pay via this method.

If you want to avoid surcharges best to pay directly to the card provider and not via a 3rd party.
yes, I set this up last month. I just wanted a credit card that wasn't an Amex and avoid the surcharge that gets inserted when used overseas, assuming it's even accepted. Used it in Bali for accommodation and the exchange rate was spot on.

No it is my grey backed butcherbird friends. They come and see us every evening for drinks and nibbles on the patio. Becoming very vocal with time. And mum is a very good parent and dad has demonstrated his butchering skills. Dispatched a peaceful dove 2 days ago. He seemed very proud of his achievement.
Well I can happily say we have watched our resident 2 bird families have their offspring fly away this week. Mr & Mrs Blackbird's 2 babies have left the nest, ditto Mrs Spotted Dove's 2 have finally left their spot on top of my market trolley, so I'm happy to have that back after 6 weeks of nursery duty. Both birds have tried previously to lay eggs but the thuggish Noisy Miners have raided the nests. This year we've rushed outside with sticks to chase them away every time we hear them

That due to their warehouse staffing issues Woolworths is prioritising refilling their inferior home brand Stock ahead of name brands. All the empty spots on shelves are name brands, meanwhile unwanted home brand over flowing.

Guess Coles will be getting more Christmas shopping patronage

Woolworths Gingerbread person. Sigh.

I think mother butcherbird is getting as much as she can out of us using her young one to shame us. She has a song of 6 notes she always uses when she wants us to let us know she is there. I was sitting next to the patio door doing some trip planning when she called from the frangipani. I ignored it so the mum flew dow and stood outside the door calling to me. Then returned to the frangipani and returned with the young one with it's perpetual hungry cry. So I cracked and they got fed in the middle of the day.

No need to justify this greed. Should be free regardless of who owns BPAY.

P.S. I payed using CBA Netbank from my debit account. I had a brain fade. I have been paying 28 degrees from my CBA debit account bit intiating payment in Latitude service centre.

Don't get me started on ATM fees.

Or cheque fees. CBA now charges $3 for each cheque we send. Don't know how many cheques are left but cannot get any more cheque books.

And account fees have got to be the stupidest fee ever charged.

Society cannot fall off the rails any quicker.

Don't you love how when WBC dropped the Amex Black as part of the Amex/Visa combo, the annual fee never changed?

WCMO today is the "committee" that bumped me from the Christmas office decorating and its now Dec and except for a couple of wreaths that have fallen off the wall and two giant light up deers - no decorations.

By now my entire office would be decked out in red, green and gold. The 8ft real Christmas tree would be bedazzled and sparkling with lights. Multiple trees throughout the office, ceilings dripping with cheer. This year, the tree is standing there without a bauble or light - must be some new aesthetic I dont understand. The office is decoration bare. Last years cubicle decorating competition is also cancelled.

Now Im not a huge fan of Christmas but I understand its enjoyable to many others so Ive always made a push to have this done by the last week of Nov (I do it on the weekend so its a Monday surprise) as we close for Christmas/have a short December. I admit, Im waiting for someone to ask me whats going on so I can tell them that it was decided to be done by others. Im OK with having one less thing to do but if they would just do the job

Should be free
Nothing is free.

While Latitude charges a BPay of $1.95, you do have a fee free method of payment which is to use you bank details and make a payment through the Latitude Service Centre. Slightly more time I suspect, but what is $1.95 worth to you.

There are lots of CC products out there who don't charge fees like that but many have a monthly or annual fee. But of course, you need to take into the totality of the CC offer - what they offer you and what they want from you in return, in order to work out whether it works for you.

I see it as a productivity issue...
Customers given lots of different options tend to pay on time. So i have very few bad debts, late payments. We choose not to pass on the cost of acceptance to the customer because our office productivity is markedly improved by using payment options like this. The cost of not having payment options like this far exceed the cost of having it. It is not free.

While we have not seen cash payments lately, people can still pay cash to our office. However why would they. They have to drive or be driven to the office, find a parking, and maybe pay for parking, and it costs us lots and there is a security issue and time wasted with staff taking cash to a bank branch. Overall the cost of cash handling is actually quite large. It is not free.

Im glad cheques are also out the door. They are an antiquated method of payment requiring much handling and uncertainty.

In the end someone pays, but the productivity gains with electronic payment systems are immense. I understand there are downsides such as IT outages which do not negate these products IMO.

That is true, even cash costs! Would love to see Lattitude setup a payid option, something like [email protected] where you could get instant payments credited in real time. And their authorisations don’t drop off as per the card provides timings. Overall their tech is very average, but we already knew that.

once you set it up, it’s a matter of just tapping the appropriate button on the pay screen, as opposed to tapping another button on the pay screen. No additional effort at all.
The free method?

Even though it may take some days to clear the system recognises the payment on the date it was made.

even cash costs
Not just a financial cost
Banks and ATM providers use Armaguard and similar armed guards to move cash.
We decided long ago that secretaries taking cash to the bank was not safe. So while cash might make sense to some, it does not from our POV.

Even processing payment receipts have been optimised. They are sent mainly via SMS/email
We have a letter folding machine and a franking machine which batch prints stamps once paper receipts are in the envelope which reduces mundane tasks like that.
