What Does The Noob Status Matched QFF Need to Look Out For?

It seems that the option for insurance defaults to yes rather than no. I speak as someone who failed to pay attention and is now the proud owner of a $12 insurance policy!!!!

Oops - trap for noob flyers. I will make sure to change to "no" as well (I have an annual travel policy that covers me) :D

Bet you don't make that mistake again!

I am a great one for not paying attention when booking JQ flights and have lots of useless insurance policies and lots of paid baggage allowances, when I ONLY do carry on. But I always mean to tick the carbon offset box!

I got the insurance once and emailed them and it was refunded 2 days later...

Tried that and it didn't work, so I tried again, with the same result. IME, sometimes JQ Customer Care just doesn't work - ever! I gave up.

Other times, I have got great and speedy assistance from them.

mmmmmm I wish I could say that would be the case. I'm hopeless with stuff like that, no attention to detail! If the VA/DJ reps are about I think the default should be no though.

Funnily enough I'm not in the slightest bit annoyed with DJ/VA, well it was my fault so why would I be, somewhat oddly I find myself quite excited at the prospect of my trip. I haven't felt like this since 1994!!!!!!! I'm usually quite jaded about travel, but the status match and DJ/VA initiatives have piqued my interest. (The DJ/VA schedule could not really be much worse for my trip, but I don't care!! It is all quite exciting.....and I don't have to fly deathstar) :)

I emailed the insurance company, not JQ. I hadn't realised I had insurance til the cover note came in so I replied saying I didn't want it and to refund it.

Perhaps they got sick of the whining from people after the volcanic ash episode.

Now it's: "well, if you chose to change the booking to 'no' for the travel insurance, it's your own stupid problem that you have to pay for the hotel that through no fault of ours [DJ], nature caused you to require after we couldn't fly you to Bali"

I don't think they have changed it. IIRC it has defaulted to 'Yes' from before the volcanic ash became a problem.

Ha...exactly how I felt on my first flight last Sunday since the status match......

happy to report my flight was great - flew out of PER - the QP there is an absolute zoo.....but Virgin lounge was almost empty - definitely no mining bogans......i will continue to fly them just for that fact........got put to row 3 lots of space & nice flight crew.....Priority boarding worked fine - didn't have to queue with the hordes like i do with QF.....

yes there are a number of things Virgin still need to work on....but for me on domestic legs to have a smooth experience at the airport/onboard are worth the tradeoff......

Have applied for VA SG status match have some questions.

Are there any reward point flights available SYD/LAX/SYD in J say a few months out or is it like QA like 10/12 months out.

How many points required SYD/LAX/SYD in J

Is it only Y seat selection that can't be booked ahead or is it J too?.

How does one use points with others in the Star alliance?

Is AirNZ in the alliance?.

94100 + $346 taxes for a reward seat.

I can see SYD-LAX in Business on 11,18,25 Oct. Best thing to do is try redeeming for the dates you're after on velocityrewards.com.au.

How does one use points with others in the Star alliance?

Only possible to redeem on Virgin Australia partners. Some partners are in Star Alliance, but the only redeemable one is Air New Zealand, at the moment.

Is AirNZ in the alliance?.

Yes.

Should possibly point out for clarity that this is the points and +++ required for a one way redemption .. so double those figures for the return.

Premium award availability tends to be reasonable, though not sure what that will look like in 6-12 months as more FF'ers join the dark side..

Just thinking how cheap it was? about same as QA.

AirNZ is good for me.

My guess is that it's very intentionally about the same as QF, though ISTR that the +++'s are slightly lower. EY premium redemptions have pretty low +++'s, so look for those perhaps (though that doesn't help at all if you're trying to get to the US). I haven't been able to find NZ flights in the online award booking tool, but they might be available through the call centre. Would be interesting to see how many points and $$ are needed for SYD-AKL-LAX and vv. on NZ..

How long ago did you book? Insurance products come with a 14 day cooling off period.

Only a few days ago. TBH I just can't be bothered to ring up and cancel.:) if it was $50 I might be a little more inclined to cancel.
