What happened to complimentary upgrades

The points and complimentary upgrades are absolutely entitled to earn Business Class Status Credits under the published term and conditions of the promotion as long as it was processed as a Velocity booking (ticket number starting with 975 - you can get an eticket receipt via sabre virtually there using the booking reference).

Velocity will more than likely argue this points when you call to have a manual adjustment done - I had the argument with then back in Feb and after the request was passed to management I was quickly awarded the status credits ;)

That is only true if it was in Z class. As the OP mentioned it seems to have been J class.

Looking to clarify that from the OP as often "J Class" is used to generically represent "Business Class".

Agreed that other comments mean it's not exactly clearly. But I've taken the comment to mean the BP showed "J". Still waiting for final confirmation in response to your follow up question

Maybe the 'ticket number' bit confused me ... ... any way, no harm in making sure ...

Sorry MarkD, comment wasn't directed at you. Just thought it was amusing that a someone complained in another thread about people getting something for nothing then came into this thread and wanted something for nothing themselves. Anyway, probably unnecessary.

Not unneccessary at all. I liked the valid point you made, but to explain my view, I don't care what we get for what we pay for provided that is a) at least what the vendor (VA in this case) has promised and b) applicable to all. What I don't like, and whine loudly about, is when a vendor gives preferential treatment to some whilst continually denying others the same for no apparant reason.......which is what happened last year and is what you were hoping would happen for you again this year.

To Clarify, the boarding pass stated " FARE J " Now I assume that J being the normal Business class fare bucket, that that would be a J class earner. Anyway, Im no airline Guru, I will await VFF response.

I suspect the response will involve this clause:

If thats the case then fine, but the amount of people who have been getting upgrade level points should consider themselves very lucky
Just looking for consistancy. I do fly a bit, but even to me. Business class is business clas, jzxadgjgry class doesnt matter, if an upgrade to business is given it shouldnt matter what bucket it fits in
I have read the conditions of upgrade, and am grateful for a free upgrade, but after seeing the people getting j sc, thought i would ask the question. Besides that my original enquiry, and the one for which i intended the post initially, for which was what happened to my bonus j upgrade cert. the experts have avoided that one with only one sensible point presented, and that was to contact VFF which i have done. I will pass the information along when i receive it, so we all know what the official line in

Earlier this month I had a BP with " FARE Z " on it - a comp upgrade had been used (booked with upgrade weeks ago). I received Business SC's and the Velocity points applicable to the [flexi] fare I purchased.

If your BP indicated " FARE J " then you travelled in "J" class, not "Z" - the implication being the ODU's are a different beastie to awards / upgrades as far asthese things go.

Unless of course, your comp upgrade books into "Z" Class where the "Special T&Cs" should override this:
Earn Status Credits on Reward Seats Terms and Conditions| Velocity Frequent Flyer

[h=3]Terms and Conditions[/h] *To be eligible for this offer, you must book and travel on a Virgin Australia (VA) marketed and operated flight in a Reward Seat Fare Class (X, P or Z) between 13 January and 30 June 2013, and all flights must be booked and ticketed directly by Velocity Frequent Flyer (featuring a ticket number beginning with "795"). Economy Reward Seat bookings will earn Status Credits at the Discount Economy rate, Premium Economy Reward Seat will earn at the Premium Economy rate and Business Reward Seat will earn at the Business rate.

It makes sense to be using J for ODUs, and why J credits were not applied.

Thanks for the explanation

The upside of this story is that it (seemingly) confirms my hope/ theory that ODU in the lounge book into a different booking class than Z and therefore offer potentially much greater inventory to choose from. That's a big win if true.

As for the 'normal' comp-upgrades.

As a two year WP, and at least 30+ flights in Economy, even when Economy is near totally full and business is empty, I have never had a truly comp-upgrade from Virgin.

If it makes you feel any better, I've had only one in about 130 flights as a Virgin Plat...

BUMP VFF, any idea why they took two upgrade credits yet?

Anybody home? Why did it cost me two upgrade certificates for one upgrade?

Did indeed, and points were checked and i actually recieved extra points to what I was entitled, which tgey kindly let me keep, however, the double spend of complimentary upgrades remains a mystery
I give up ! If its going to cost two upgeade certs for one upgrade just tell us
