What I ate today - the food thread

My wife and her cousin have been getting ready for Christmas by making cakes. They have just baked about 150 Singapore Pineapple Tarts and 3 big tins of Sri Lankan Love Cake. Sri Lankan Love cake - Essentially Sri Lankan | Peckish Me She & he are both Singapore born Eurasians and the European side is mainly German. But there is also a Dutch side who were in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) by at least the 1720's.

It tastes very nice and there are many variations. The one they made is from his old family one and doesn't include the pumpkin preserve.

Just a sandwich with some fries on the side. Slow roasted Angus beef, sage roasted turkey, smokey thick crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar and slaw. Washed down with a little wine. Avalon Can Sav; Napa Valley, Kenwood "Yulupa" Zin; Sonoma, Alta Vista Malbec; Argentina. The Zin is my choice.

Hotel dinner on Kangaroo Island, beef for him, pork for me. Tired and hungry so tasted great.

The peas and speck reminded me of my Italian mums cooking so I stole it from his plate, the greek dessert was missing honey, according to my greek husband who was comparing it to his mums cooking but he enjoyed the locally made salted caramel ice-cream.

Chicken plate at the new Barangaroo House (Matt Moran venture) - chicken off the spit (lamb option too) and salad. Also had some good chips.

Bar downstairs is good - but limited food choices. Next level up is Bea and top level is Smoke, the premium venue.

It means that the Barangaroo dining precinct is all completed now. I'm a big fan - especially of Banksii.

Went to a nearby hotel for Christmas lunch on Kangaroo Island and so happy that we did and so much food that we took a couple of containers away to nibble on for dinner.

Seafood & antipasto platter was amazing, beef was awesome.
