What I ate today - the food thread

Excellent. Love the Pinot, SVs and Chardonnay from Greywacke so was keen to try it. Highly recommended, very clean, mineralogy with good fruit but still acidic and on the drying side. Excellent food wine.

Kevin Judd is one of the National Living Treasures of NZ wines.

Thanks! Might see if I can find it this side of the ditch. I love a good Marlborough PG.

Punching well above the competition .... the breakfast shots I posted a week or so ago were all from JP - excellent restaurant.
I was going to say they also do great breakfasts.

We lived in Townsville in the 80’s & early 90’s and there was always a good selection of restaurants.

I don’t follow chefs but we were tipped that Jose Alvillez venues were well worth a look in Portugal. We did his Cantinho in Porto twice and now his Barrio do Alvillez today in Lisbon - this place is four venues of different standards in one and he has a few other places around town. We’ve just been doing simple snacking and wine - the service and food has been excellent.

Today we had roasted octopus followed by suckling pig sandwich and fries for a light lunch.

Looks good enough to google to see if a side trip is practical next visit. Nice
MrsTMA makes this a must visit stop! Always costs me a fortune.

Some of the best chocolates you'll ever taste. They also have shops in other places.

Yeah, I easily racked up a $100 online order before I came to my senses and cancelled the basket but I hope the salted caramel is good. We had some great stuff in Seattle and havent found similar sincce.

Only $100? Sheesh! Wish I was allowed to get out of there so cheaply!

Being lunch time I was looking forward to the oven baked wings and rice in the QP. Also know that it’s put out at 11.45 and first round all gone by midday so I ventured over at 11.50. Weirdly people were looking but not taking.

I took one just to see if it was as bad as it looked. Clearly caramelisation (aka flavour) not on the check list.

No photos ... but there used to be this restaurant in Hobart called ... Ethos.
Was about 8 courses of tasting-menu artfully made of mostly local ingredients, purely based on what was available & good on the day.
Seriously awesomesauce, and for around $60 ridiculously good value. Even when it went up to $100 it was ridiculously good value.
Unfortunately it disappeared last year, I presume it was a coughload of work for the chef, designing a menu at the very least weekly.

So instead, what I just ate was banana-bread made from the over-purchased ladyfingers that’d gotten too ripe to eat. Sugary overripe banana goodness makes good banana bread. :)
