Getting the cleaning done is my hard bit. I haven't advanced to toasting my own malt or anything like that, so it is goop for me as well. I like it, I like it when I get a nice creamy head from an Ale or a lager and some long lasting bubbles such that it holds the head. But it is also variable in the result with some bottles being just no good, even in the same batch. I have also let my brother try and some random friends of friends resulting in fairly poor to average responses. There is a place in Brisbane that does he fermenting for you and it is then just a case of bottling. I would love to give that a shot.

O/T Try some of the brew packs from Grumpy's at Hanhndorf - they're a little bit more work (boiling the hops, etc) but it's worth it. There's a place in Lonsdale that does the fermenting for you - you just have to bottle it. PM me if you want more details. :cool: O/T

A few of my favourites;

Tsingtao; China
Kingfisher Blue or Fosters (brewed in Mysore); India
Dos Equis, Tecate or Modelo negro; Mexico
Flensburger Pils, Schlenkerla Rauchbier (smoked) or Paulaner Hefe-weissbier (even the alkoholfrei is nice:shock:); Germany
Kilkenny or Newcastle: UK
Hite; Korea

Oops; forgot to add my local favourite; Coopers Sparkling, Pale, or any of the Coopers beers....

I branched out into real beers this weekend - Viking Pilsner and Little Creatures Pilsner - two very nice drops.

1. San Miguel (Philippines)
2. Asahi (Japan)

I would reverse the order but definitely agree on the choices. San Miguel is a great beer. Many times I have left Manila to return home via Hong Kong and the selection of premium European beers in Hong Kong are truly unpalatable after a few days of SM.

Just to expand, the Japanese beers are always near the very top of the list: Asahi, Saporo, Kirin.
Australian beers: James Squire, James Boag, Coopers. Fat Yak is a top drop.

I have fond memories of selecting indirect award routings between BNE and PER that gave me an hour or two in the ADL Qantas Club to enjoy a few draft Coopers :).
