What is your intention in relation to your QFF membership?

I did not vote yet because I haven't crunched my numbers to see the impacts, and assess alternative programs.

I am WP, year ends May 31, and I have a lot of SCs to accrue by them to retain it. I do have a significant number of SCs coming next month, and a couple of trips i'm considering (for a reason, not just there and back) which would get me over the line for WP again (and get me LTS as well, FWIW). I did briefly consider cancelling some of those trips net month and going either *A or VA (with whom i have Gold till end August) but I figure it's just as easy to retain WP for another year.

If my sums tell me I should move, I would have one more year of WP, a soft land to SG the following year, and 22 months of on-hold QP membership to kick in after that so would have some benefits for a few years, even if I wasn't flying QF very much. If the move was to VA I would likely requal gold for next year, then take it as it comes from then.

I do like QF, and also VA. I also have memberships (base level) in UA, AA, CX and AF/KL.

I suspect the most likely outcome is I'll stay with QF as the primary program, but that is TBC.

I'd have to agree. These changes, especially to the partner SC earn, is likely the last straw. It's just a matter of finding another oneworld program that fits my travel habits.

To date, I've booked QF codes whenever possible.
Where a QF code hasn't been available, I've booked towards what would get me the most points, generally an AA code.
Then I book whatever code gives me the best result for taxes etc.

If QF wants me to continue booking QF codes, then they need to explain how I can fly ICN/NRT/HKG-SFO/LAX/YVR/DFW/ORD/JFK/YYZ or North America-Europe with a QF code (more useful Europe-Asia QF codes would be nice too).

I had been working on my holiday plans for this year (normally DAS13+DONE3) while trying to benefit QF as much as possible. The delay with announcing the new QF9/10 timings slowed that planning down. This program change has put a complete halt to it.


As for status matching...
AA said to call AAdvantage.
AY said no.
It appears that CX will consider it if you email them a copy of your Activity Statement.
Haven't heard back from MH or BA.

I was already "drifting away" anyway due to QF being unable to do BFOD and JQization of my common routes, glad I took the VA status match a while ago and tried to keep both QF and VA status alive. I will sit down and do the maths, but suspect that the latest simplifications have put QF Gold out of reach for me, so will probably let the QP membership lapse and start researching/"dabbling" in AAdvantge and possibly other OW/*A and or even Skyteam options. If VA ever wakes up and joins *A then that will be the final blow for QF.

I have been gradually moving away from QF. Its mainly because QFi has very limited international options and further the competition out there is fantastic from a customer point of view. I only 2 -3 international with QF a year and that will move to EK or SQ.

For me, I will probably stick with QFF for the time being given that my travels and the fare types that I book (namely Discount Economy) will not get me too far on the other OW programs (CX or AA).

Domestic, its QF. International, I might go back to CX.

I voted "sticking with QF" mainly as I'm qualified WP until May 2015.
I am going to spend a fair amount of time working out not whether but how much I should move to Aadvantage where I'm also a member albeit with no status.
An AA Platinum Challenge / Status Match is a possibility although the accumulation of CC points to QF is a reason to stay put.

I'm just feeling ticked off that QF's idea of "loyalty" is somewhat more one-way than I thought :evil:

To further, further qualify what I've said (as things sink in a little more), while it's true I'll be earning less points on my discount economy fares from now on, as others have pointed out, on other OW partners I'd likely earn nothing on those fares. I'm sure I'll consider a higher fare every so often too, but if the majority of my spend is on the cheap ones it'd be stupid to credit a couple expensive ones to AAnother program, for instance

I guess I'll have a push at WP seeing as I'm only a few SC's short, and hopefully with a soft landing I'll have gold or above for 2 years minimum while I look at the VA family pooling option... Lucky to have my renewal date at the same time as the changing rate change for MASA's...

So will book & travel before July to take full advantage of some easy SC earn

I have the next 18 days to decide if I want to switch. I would actually benefit based on my travel for the last year, but the withdrawal of Y+ for SIN together with the drop in partner earnings (or more specifically, BA Y+ if I want to avoid Y) might just be enough to get me to change camps. I'm still relatively a newcomer, with only 62% to LTS so I'm not sure if it's worth the effort of getting LTS (or LTG, for that matter).

I'm not a big spender, although the QF/JQ/3K coded flights which took up 2/3 of my SC earns in the past years will essentially drop to zero if I abandon the QF program.

I chose BFOD as that's what the new employer runs with and we're not planning much personal travel in the near future that isn't already booked. A few issues have me maintaining status quo with the current credit card/FF set up:

1. My family and I will qualify for complimentary TI on my ANZ QF direct earn Plat AMEX for a trip at the end of the year so i'll hold that for now;
2. Hoping QF obey their "3 year" rule that others have mentioned (other threads) here re comp'd status (year end 30th June); and
3. Need to wait a while before I look at a either a Citi Rewards Card or AMEX Card due to having churned one approx 9 months ago.

Wasn't excited by the content of the announcement and when I combine that with my anticipated reduced flying in the next year or two I think warehousing points in a CC program makes sense.

I don't think we can move to BA unless we have a UK address, but I guess you can use a friends? That might be an option

i like using F lounges in US so would likely stay with QF or try for BA via a UK address

There are only three F lounges in the USA, ORD is qaint and small, JFK is old and tired but I like LAX T4 F lounge, As AA EXP (Australian based) I still seem to use them as I transit from international to US domestic and domestic to international most of the time. Unless you intend to really travel a lot in the states, I can't see the point in striving for WP just to use the limited F lounges in the USA. Better to be AA EXP and get the upgrades free on domestic US and Caribbean flights.

But that is mainly because we have a few US trips in the coming years so could be good for us.

If you have the need or desire to place the US in your travel agenda on a regular basis, moving to AA is a must.

Fair point. AA won't work for me, I couldn't get Exp with the way I fly.
Currently BAEC Blue so there's room to move there

To keep my AA EXP each year I always have to be a little inventive, such as IST-LHR-LAX-SYD and fly in a cheaper multi city way with other flights. Plus pick up the odd US bargain at 0.35 cents a mile (but usually complimentary F). If I were to fly the cheapest most convenient way, likely I would miss out on AA EXP. Being self employed allows me to do all of this, but I can imagine those on wages with paid company flights, especially with families when taking holidays, my sort of pattern is impossible.

I am going to (try) to stick to BFOD - at least while I am in the acute sulking phase. Ironic really as I'm finally about to hit WP (45 SC's short) and have let my VA SG status lapse (I am going to buy a lounge membership!)
