What is your intention in relation to your QFF membership?

What will you do?

Yes, BAEC for me.

I'd be really interested in your reasoning, Princess Fiona - what about the program would work well with your flying?

I realise that there aren't many people that could achieve AA EXP on domestic travel mostly, but that's what I will achieve (100 EQ segments), so AA is good for me (apart from the fact I have to avoid sale fares in E class on QF). I couldn't see the BAEC working for me, so I'm fascinated - how would it work to get to BAEC Gold (or beyond) for you?

Without speaking for Princess Fiona, I'd say if a majority of your flights are over 2000 miles; BAEC works really well.

(for OneWorld flights, you earn 40TP if under 2000 miles and 140TP if over)

So, flying CX, QR or even QF to LHR (doing the QF1>QF9 swap in DXB) will earn 560 Tier Points per r/t.

BA via SIN, if flown as a single flight, will earn 480 Tier Points per r/t. If stopping over in SIN for a day each way, that jumps to 600 TP per r/t

SYD-PER r/t earns 280TP (and if originating in MEL, routing via SYD could put you at 360TP

With 1500 TP required to earn and retain BAEC Gold (OWE), 3 r/t to the UK puts you over. You do need 4 BA coded segments each qualifying year.

(TP earn discussed in this post is for flights in business)

1500 TP per annum for Gold. Over the last few years I have averaged 2000 SC on QF. This is from long haul J travel mainly. Very little domestic to QF (I use VA dom). A SYD-LHR rtn gets 480 TP/ 480-560 SC so I think with my travel I would be in the ball park for BA Gold. I don't do enough segments per annum for AA and as my long haul travel is skewed towards Premium cabin there's no gain in AA earning there.

For now I'll let the dust settle and see what happens.

You beat me too it

BAEC is a good fit for anyone hitting WP1 or more....some nice icing on the cake for the top earners!

I'm curious.... to those who will stay with QFF:

Would you switch to another program if you had no status or points with QFF right now?

Most likely would have gone with BAEC for me as well, and most of the trips <2000 miles would be BFOD, possibly on LCCs. I take a few Y+ trips as well, which credit quite in terms of status.

What's keeping me with QF right now is:
1. making LTS in a year or two,
2. earns on 3K flights (they're excellent compared to their AU counterpart - JQ),
3. I don't go to Europe all that often, if they ever decide to drop the SIN-SYD route, I'm in trouble. (Let's face it, having crew so far away from home base, and needing to park a new 77W on the ground for 10 hours, I wonder how long this will last).

Given the "strong appearance" that QF may be gearing to dump OW, they might jump back into the market and resurrect BA10 (SYD-BKK).....fingers crossed!

Not too sure how BAEC works, but would switching over to BA11/12 in SIN on the same day still get 600 TPs? It's bookable as a connection on the website, and meets the SIN MCT.

Domestically? I know my response doesn't count.

Virgin with a mix of Tiger and Jetstar? I would seriously reconsider the need to commute.

And then they may let us colonials join up to BAEC.

The poll only assumes that you either stay with QFF or move.

The third option is: Stay with QFF but redirect some expenditure towards another FF program.

Most I suspect will be the third option.

*******Qantas - you have just given a lot of your pax reason to consider other frequent flyer programs. *******

I wonder what this looks like if you just take those who live in Perth. Given no QF flights to SIN pretty means you're forced to fly/join with another program. And before people say that J* still fly to SIN, thats J* Asia which has no Ipads etc, so no way going to put the family on those flights.

I think you're supposed to fly on EK ;)

Is there history for this restriction?

I recall reading on FT that BAEC members were always upset over the "EuroCheats" is there a similar reason for barring AUS based members?

It relates to the now defunct JSA between QF and BA.
IIRC the legalities mean that even although the JSA has ended BA cannot have AU members at any time.

Cheers - would never have thought of that!

Surely that wouldn't stack up in regards to the ACCC.....appears to be clear cut anticompetitive behaviour. Maybe we should all start writing letters to the ACCC ;)

Who knows what might happen. It might fall over if (?when) QF leave OW.

I'll move more towards BFOD, let Qantas compete on price and see how things come out in the wash. As platinum with VA and QF this is an easy decision to make.

I'm staying, Qantas is under pressure from external competitors that don't have to pay Australian salary rates and conditions. While some has criticised its services from time to time, I'm O.K. with the product and level of service that I have been receiving over the years.
