What is your intention in relation to your QFF membership?

What will you do?

Don't get me wrong, I don't like changes which make it harder to earn points / SC's... But since I've only used JASA's once and it's rare I fly on anything other than QF (so OW earn rates don't really affect me), these changes are but an annoyance.
It's certainly not enough for me to switch carriers.

Prob the most annoying thing for me is the reduction of earning via flying. I wonder if there is going to be a similar reduction in earning via credit cards or other non flying related purchases? If there isn't it simply pushes QFF closer to an buyers awards program rather than a frequent flyers program, since it's possible to earn QFF points via shopping, and then use them to purchase toasters, there is no need to even go near a plane to get something from the program.

Majority of my flying is domestic, majority east coast, and as it is generally booked as redi deal in 1 direction and flexi in the other I'm not really going to lose anything on points earn. I strongly prefer the QF experience to VA so will be sticking with QF.

If I can fly fly QF on my international trips, usually 1 to USA and 1 to Europe each year, then I do. But I'll choose another OW option if the value makes that as sensible choice so nothing will change there.

I re qualify WP each year pretty comfortably, and last year earned 2500 SC's so the changes are no threat to my status.

I've booked a few MASA's because the SC & points earn just made them better value than a classic on the same route. I have one booked SYD - DFW - SYD in J later this year for that reason.

The only area where this has a negative impact is our family trips to the UK, which we these days book in Y+. SC / points earn on CX and BA for these has been pretty lucrative so it will be a shame to see it it reduced, but the reality is that OW emerald provides enormous benefit to us on those trips.

So really not much reason to change, and with LTG under 2000 SC's / 2 years away there's plenty of reason to stick with QFF. I personally feel well looked after as a WP.

No AA status does not get you lounge access in the USA on domestic flights.Part of the itinerary needs to be International.

After 5 mins of doing back of the fa_ packet numbers BAEC looks to be the clear winner for easy OW elite status - assuming you can get around AUS address!

Easier qualification for elite status
Much easier to maintain the 4 flights per year SYD-SIN-SYD x 2
Better lounge access in LOTFAP
YUP runs still available if that's your thing

Not sure about point earning (Aus based) or award redeeming.

Even easier if you originate outside SYD. xx_-SYD-SIN r/t will get you 4x BA coded segments.

My flying is pretty much entirely with other OW carriers so these changes are a big hit.

Most of my required QF group flights have been MASAs or Jetstar.

So QF has little left to offer me now.

I've selected the move to BFOD option in the interim.

On the plus side, the research is fun again. Back to square one!

Step 1. Star Alliance or Oneworld?

Step 2. Which carrier?

But as QF LTG you will get acce4ss to ACs.

Sure. I was summarising some of the benefits for the AFF'ers that haven't reached that stage yet. Our travel patterns are more centred on Asia and European destinations therefore, BAEC would be a better fit if I ever decided to move away from QF.

I'm dual Aus & UK citizen.....does anyone know if that makes BAEC membership possible for Aus based players? Haven't got an obvious UK address I can use at this point in time...

As the bulk of my flying is MEL-MQL there really isn't any viable alternative for me. VA only do one flight per day which isn't timed to suit my needs. I could go REX but at least with QF I still have lounge access and hopefully will retain at least SG. WP might be harder to maintain now. If I start doing more asia trips instead of US trips in the future then I will probably start trying to improve my SQ status instead. But domestically I'll prob stick with QF as long as it's not too much more for the places I need to get to. Gotta get my money's worth out of that lifetime QP if I don't hold onto WP/SG.

Even easier! BNE-SYD-SIN-SYD-BNE will get the 4 flights.....QF metal x 2 still counts as 4 qualifying BA flights - sweet!

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Surprised the overwelming majority staying with Qantas?

Perhaps the overwhelming majority have Two or more FF membersips?.
maybe the poll shold ask what degree of "loyalty"to QF vs another carrier will occur now?

Sharing Avios counts as activity for Avios expiry!!! Is there an airline earning table? How do I know which fare classes earn TPs?

You don't need a UK address, you need to have an address outside Australia.
I'm also a dual citizen but I am lucky that I still have a postal address, bank etc in the UK. I have had BAEC membership for a couple of years mainly as a means of searching for Award redemptions.

I've had to think about the questions for a while. Having lifetime Gold with AA and having PER as my home airport makes my choices somewhat different, but here are the things I think about while I'm waiting for the answer to my choice. Some plus - some minus. And the answer to the question I asked an airline could be no.

1. Loss of soft landing with AA. Lack of premium cabin benefit following changes in million miler program.
2. Loss of PER-SIN/HKG/NRT with QF. No A330 on 3K PER-SIN.
3. Unlikely chance of extending/achieving life time status with either AA (103% LTG) or QF (28% LTS)
4. Likely reduction in the 50K travel each year due to retirement. Still likely to visit family in USA.
5. Lack of a pro-active response by AA customer service to a web site error.
6. Reduced OW partner earning with QF (both J and Y)
7. Limited interest in Australian domestic travel.
8. QF not installing W cabin in A330s
9. QF did offer a free status boost last year. And I doubled my QF flying.
10. I did use AA double EQM offers to earn EXP in the past.
11. I have had an inactive CX account for a long time, though acknowledge status there is earned only by flying.
OTOH CX status (even Silver) is treated very nicely while flying CX.
12. I have friends in Sri Lanka, where I buy long haul tickets.
13. Fare class lowering on QF fares. What used to be V is now S. What was K is now V.
14. No interest (actual aversion?) to transiting Middle East.
15. Significantly lower fares if purchased outside of Australia (or Hong Kong) . On ALL airlines.

Happy wandering

Fred
