What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

It insteresting - flying on QF 9 and 10 to and from LHR to MEL I was able to differentiate the upgraders from the rest of us.

Upgraders tended to be in a different seat position for the different flight segents - ie from DXB and to DXB.

Obiviously you can a similar feel from the seat map.

That's interesting. I've never changed seats or had to change seats on an upgrade before.

Agree. Although you can easily change it. As WP, whenever I book[ed] in P I got row 5; whenever on a commercial fare it was more like 3 or 4. Row 1 is to be avoided for the reasons given above as is row 5 for similar (noise and light) reasons. My money is on row 2, 3 or 4 - take your pick whether that means window or centre. Personally, prefer Ks as there seems to be less general FA traffic.

Ditto PF - never changed seats on multiple sector upgrades.

Oh ok - never thought of that.
the only time I have watched seats was for my recent upgrade requests on QF11 and 12. With QF11 it just steadily got more and more full - probably from about 3 weeks out on so I knew I didn't stand a chance. QF12 was more interesting - it only had 4 available about 3 weeks out and then all of a sudden it changed and went to 8 available then to 7 available and was still sitting at that the night before so I was quite hopeful. I would have thought that is quite a light load 3 weeks out, but my experience of upgrades is not great! Have fun watching it - hope it stays empty for you :)

Thanks for your thoughts Fm - no biggie at all if it fills up - I was just kinda surprised showing such a light loading this close. I have never flown QF F previously so I have no idea what to expect.

In my experience, F cabins in A380 is often nearly empty even three days prior to QF 9 departure ( Mel - LHR). I used to get my hopes up that the cabin will be nearly all for my family.... Then, when I get on board it is completely full. Lots of upgraders from J, presumably those with high status. No personal experience with A380 to LAX.

Well I hope you get to experience it at some point - the flight attendants in F are terrific and really cosset and care for you. I think generally in F the seats tend to get booked much closer to the departure time than in other cabins. We normally buy F on sales and quite far out and usually all seats are vacant at that point.

Can't recall ever seeing an empty seat in F.

Always fun trying to guess who are the plutocrats and who are the upgraders ;):p.

Really? WOW - this is going to be an experience - rarely is SQ F 50% full ex MEL - Chinese routes ex SIN can be full or empty - had several SIN-PVG/PEK flts where I was only pax - but that's getting a bit OT huh - sorry.

Qantas hardly has any F left - I guess what they have kept is what they think they can fill (plus keep some Ffs happy with upgrades). I did travel F SYD to Joburg a few years ago before they ditched it and that was only half full.

Any thoughts on 2F - it is first of the row 2 seats?

It is behind the stairs, nearish the loos, & a cupboard. Not my 1st choice. Having said that, it IS in F:). The starboard side aisle is maybe a bit less busy as a FA thoroughfare, as mentioned above. Being bulkhead / behind the stairs it has a private feel.

My preference is window to also give privacy from one side.

There will always be travellers who book at the last minute / only a couple of days out, so it's good to know that QF keep F seats available, only slowly releasing them for upgrades.. Have had a couple of times where my own plans changed & I made my booking late the night before / the morning of the flight.

Talking about the A380 services SYD/MEL to LAX/LHR or v/v- but the memory may have been rendered slightly fuzzy by the Comtes ;).

My memory was a bit Krug...ed but the Vodka with the caviar and the French red got the brain stimulated for the land of nod.
Sitting in the SQ lounge waiting now for the run home to Perth.

I am not a big fan of the F seats - have never sat in them so probably just prejudice, but they just look much more open. F and K share an aisle so it looks busier as well, which is why I have always gone for the A side. The FA cupboard would affect 2F, although I wouldn't have thought the coat cupboard or toilets as 2F is set a bit back from 1A and K (and I didn't notice that much of an impact in 1A anyway).

As per the seat map I posted yesterday Cruiserette and I are in 3F/K - regardless of which pair of seats you select seems there is going to be ZERO togetherness factor in the F cabin. Is QF F so full of single pax to dictate this layout? Just so foreign to me after SQ.

SWMBO and I have secured 2A/3A for our upcoming SYD-LHR return trip. Shared dining is the only togetherness you'll get on QF.......more than enough IMHO.

For a long time they were my preferred pair - and we always reject shared dining :)
