What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

I'm currently torn whether to book F or J (and save the miles) for myself and partner later this year to LHR. As the F seating configuration aren't quite setup for couples, I am wondering whether it may feel a bit too isolated for the long journey? Also, does anyone actually use the ottoman for dining?

Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the A380 J hard product overall (haven't experienced/noticed the droop myself.. yet)

Dining together in F is fun. If you get F&K seats then you can wave at each other across the aisle when you get lonely.

The "isolation" is a luxury! :)
You will find plenty of views on this topic on threads such as this or "QF F - First Impressions" and others.

All a matter of personal taste, of course, but yes, certainly you can use the ottoman for dining together. In fact, it is often offered by the cabin staff, if they know you are travelling with a partner or friend.

I would - and do - take the F option in the blink of an eye, whenever possible.

But, if you decide on J, then all the more seats available for those of us who have become addicted to F. :)

What's the use of the points in life anyway ?

It's here and now, esp with (a) you are travelling with your loved one, (b) it is a long trip and (c) it is (my assumption here) QF A380.

To me, it's a no-brainer.

I paid a higher (standard) rate for a SQ suite so that I could be with my spouse who had a (lower-points) Saver Suite.

Didn't even blink !

And it was worth every single point - all the way from Paris to Sydney - with the double bed on offer.

Anyway, it is your choice in the end.

Agree with all of those sentiments. So maybe we should be dissuading others from our preferred path? :)
No. The travel experience is so much better all round, that it should be shared.
Go for it, ogs70. Even if you try F only once, it will be more fun than counting those points. :)

In answer to your question : Yes it's great to use the ottoman to dine as a couple.
If you have the miles then I'd say go for it :)
The experience of F as a couple is pretty good. Granted the suites don't have the SQ double bed feel but to be honest I think the best part of flying with your partner is the Lounge pre-flight and the main meal onboard. Apart from that flying is a relatively solo pursuit IMHO and QF first delivers both my needs in spades.
That said if you don't want to fly F feel free to leave the seats for the rest of us points junkies

You could always try BA first. Time it right and you can take their A380 from SIN to LHR plus the centre seat pairs have a slidey screen you can open to talk to your partner, or use the ottoman.

Word of warning, last time I flew BA F in their A380 they had single ply loo paper

Your partner may be very happy to be sitting in F .... probably won't even notice you're not there ;)

FWIW I am 2/2 from dining together in F and none of the cabin staff were proactive in offering it. This is when they already knew we were travelling together.

As the others have said, if you have the opportunity for both of you in F, you'd be mad not to do it... unless you really need the points for a good reason (long haul Y flights where you want a points upgrade and partner doesn't care about F).

Mrs 340 and I had a lovely dining experience last week in 3K (of course I gave up my seat to sit on the ottoman). It's just like being in secluded seats in a restaurant and really fun. And Mrs 340 got to kick me out to 2K when she wanted to watch movies. As they say, "Happy wife, happy life."

Unless you started dating two weeks ago, is it really that important to hold hands together for the whole flight? Anyway most of the time you either sleep, read or watch movies. There is one thing which is fun to share - dining and it's a great experience in F.
Don't think twice, book F. It's the best value redemption of points.

Personally I hate sitting on the Ottoman to dine, especially when you can be there for a couple of hours. I dined with my husband on our first F flight, and then never again. Why give up a comfy seat lol? (Yes we've been married for 20 years). So now I just join him for dessert :-)

Well, after careful and balanced consideration of all the pros and... pros, I went ahead with the F (PER-)MEL-LHR option :o

I've selected 2A and 3A, thinking with no aligned aisle to aisle rows, the extra privacy of the A side would probably work best for the two of us.

Yeah... nah

Yeah... nah

Delighted to hear that you took the plunge.

Not quite so delighted that you chose 2A. That's my favourite. :)
Don't want too many people competing for it.

Apart from your "poor" choice of seat, enjoy it all - and do report back on your experience. :)

I think that's getting just a little bit too territorial!

I've just selected myself 1A all the way from Marseille to Sydney in May 2016. Chased down our QF ref number from a recent AA F award splurge. I am 1A (just for the boarding pass), I am sure the minor inconveniences of the toilet and crew cupboard will be very minor indeed. SWMBO is in 2A on the A380 leg. At present we have a private cabin.

Keeping our eyes peeled for the next AA 60k bonus, perfect offer for this trip! ;)
