Whats the least amount of money you'd need to earn 1400 Qantas SC

How often do you think QF will release double SCs promotions and more importantly how long do you think the NAN loophole is going to last?

QF runs double SC's in difficult times, that is April-June last two years, prior to that they ran it for three months when Ansett MK2 was meant to start flying in 2001.

In terms of the NAN run, I don't expect it will be around much longer, VA are rumored to be pulling Nadi/coughet runs off their schedule according to the Courier Mail this morning as a result of JB coming on board, that will mean no competition in J.

For a look at an average earn, I estimate that I'm going to get 1400 SC this year for about $10000 and 74000 points on ASA. That is my spend and it is a rough estimate as I still have to buy 3 more flights this year and I don't have the cost of a couple of flights from last to hand. But the $10k does include a rough allowance for those flights.

On top of that there are 20SC that work paid for at about $250.

NAN Run, l can't see it lasting forever. It was a very good deal though. Also depends on the load l guess. Same with the CX fares that you pick up too sometimes JohnK, they aren't around all the time, are they? Competition?

As Markis10 said, the double SC promo was done during difficult times. So, who knows when the next promo will be. If l new that, l'd be selling puts like crazy.

However, if Virgin Group does indeed launch a V Australia product, with a Business Saver fare, or something similar, l'm sure that there will be other "loopholes" to be exploited, as QF will have some competition.
As dedicated AFF members, once a good deal becomes known amongst our community, we'll all exploit it to the max, that's one thing l'm certain off and almost part of being a FF Nut :)

There is also the other way of doing things. Don't do status runs, per se, but go on holidays and spend a day before and a day after to do some additional flights. Not goung to be as cheap but still have the holiday and earning status is a bonus.

That's exactly what I do -- I'm more than happy to add in additional flights and pay for a higher fare class to make sure I hit the magic 1200 SCs number, but I can't get in to flying purely for the sake of flying. Did it once and surprised myself by how little I enjoyed it.. :p

Actually the CX special airfares have been around for a long time but until recently the CX special airfares were available via travel agents only.

And by the way the CX special airfares are still around if people bother to do their research. Just recently I booked some fantastic specials that appeared for a short amount of time and before the AUD went into freefall.

No ... 120 (A) + 120 (A) + 80 (I) + 80 (I) + 120 (A) + 120 (A) = 640 ... ;)

According to AA MIA ORD is 1197 flight miles, so it is 90SC in F.
Maybe QF are generous on this sector with the 3 miles to get you over the threshold to 120SC. I'm more than happy if that is the case.

I think Qantas credit it at 1,204 or something similar.

Great for SC earn. Sucks for Award redemption :)

Good to know, thanks v8Statesman! I was simply following the GCM and AA on the matter. But as you say, sucks for redemption.

There are a handful of "nice" routes like this for the purposes of status earn.. ;)
