What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

It matters heaps.

I am looking at 20,575THB airfare. Yesterday it was ~AUD719 and today it is ~AUD694. Tomorrow it could be ~AUD669.

I also need to book another airfare ~4,740THB.

I also need to book an airfare which is ~1,090SG. Yesterday it was ~AUD956 and today it is ~AUD936. Tomorrow it could be ~AUD916.

It may not sound like a lot to you but it is a lot to me. I am going to Thailand in September/October, December/January and planning to go in April and July.

I am trying to squeeze another trip to Thailand in February for my 50th birthday.
Just seems strange for someone who has made it to the higher tiers of a couple of frequent flyer programs to be worrying about the price of a restaurant dinner or two.

Not if that flyer is completely self funded including the weekly commute BNE SYD and enjoys overseas travel 5-6 times a year, a restaurant meal is a weeks accomodation or more.

Actually I would have thought someone spending many $thousands of their own money on travel (especially leisure travel) to be even less likely to worry about an odd $50 here or there, than someone who had the bulk of their travel paid for by someone else.

But, to each their own. I just know when I'm contemplating holiday expenses, the fluctuations of the currency over the space of a few days barely counts as a rounding error.

...
Mitigate your risks; buy the cheaper fares now and the most expensive one in a couple of days.

Why you think that?

When you are paying for all of your own travel, that odd $50 here and $100 there adds up after a while!

Yes we get those $50 notes by running with Woolies gift cards from RAC so why would we be slack with those savings?
Then there is starthere and other rebates to turbo charge the $50 notes acquisitions.
The $AUD rally is a nice touch.

That $50-100 saved on a currency conversion is better spent on shoes and bags

How does that work, most people I know are more than happy to spend someone elses money but are cautious with their own. Am not sure the quantity of money is much of a factor, even some very rich poeple have shown some reluctance to open their own wallet.

It's a matter of proportions.

If I'm spending $100 on a once-off flight up to Rocky, $50 is a lot.

If I'm regularly spending enough on flights to hit the upper tiers of multiple FF programs ($thousands), then $50 is neither here nor there.

It may look like a price of a restaurant dinner or two but I can assure it means a lot more.

I am stretching the budget to go to Thailand 4 times a year and to add a 5th time one would need to stretch the budget even further. That means trying to save money everywhere.

Quite the contrary... if I'm spending that much $$ on flying, I doubt I would even have that $50 left to go for dinner.
