What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Given those currencies have virtually zero interest anyway, you might just as well go exchange for cash when the rate suits, at the place that gives you the lowest fees.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm not a fan of carrying big wads of cash around when travelling though.

Check out HSBC Premier wafliron. Easily the best spreads I have encountered. Multiple currency accounts or free accounts set up in the various countries and currencies each with their own visa debit cards to use just like you would your bank and card in Australia. Includes Mastercard cc linked to QFF.

Thanks, sounds like what I need - will check it out.

AUD down again and Oil up means petrol will keep going up.

Petrol prices are obviously manipulated.I have a diesel.A few weeks ago unleaded was 134.9,diesel 153.9.
Then the dollar fell, oil went up and unleaded 149.9(and some were higher) but diesel 153.9 still.
Then on Tuesday Unleaded 139.9,diesel 144.9-first time I have seen it's price move for ages.

It was only a few months ago the general consensus in the financial papers was that the Aussie dollar would shatter 1.30 with all the stimulus devaluing the greenback and pretty much all the majors. Only a year or 2 ago when we dipped from 1.10 to 93c in a few weeks, the majority of articles were saying it was the start of the drop back to 60c. The media tends to follow the current trend to irrational conclusions to spark fear campaigns either way. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The currency has been firming this afternoon and evening.....small recovery steps?? Gold up!
And a US holiday that may make traders take a long weekend.

Spare a thought for local airlines which fly on imported fuel. The low AUD will put pressure on fares, I would believe.

i wouldn't think it would make any difference for several more years... wouldnt the airline have hedged a whole lot of fuel when it was at the $1.05?

Back in the day QF did successfully. However they hedged when the price of oil was relatively low.

I'm off tomorrow to put a few thou on my cash card for my upcoming trip to the USA in September - I'm happy to hedge my bet at .92c
