For us the travel rather than the flights are what drives us.Both of us have always enjoyed travel.
Frequent flying began in 1992 when I bought life QP and mrsdrron life Golden wings.
In 1995 we did a round the world flight in J-helped by the fact I had lined up 3 conferences I could attend along the way.Unfortunately as many of us have found that means the end of Y travel.
From 1992-2002 we were able to have 3 return J awards on A* and 1 on QF.Paid travel was mainly to Asia.
In 2002 our son moved to the USA.With the companion fares on JAL it was about half the price in J compared to QF to get to JFK.At that time you could only earn QFF points on JAL to NRT but on AA the whole way(though not counted for status). So we both switched to Aadvantage. We soon had enough points for our first J Aaward to the USA and with no status got upgraded to F on Aaward tickets so I was sold.
One year I made EXP and mrsdrron got used to Flounges. The one disadvantage of Advantage compared to QFF then was it was harder to get status so our current situation came about.
Mrsdrron switched to QFF 4 years ago and has been WP since.I remained with Aadvantage and thanks to all the help you get here and FT made Life time Plat 12 months ago-just beating the Aadvantage enhancements. So with my LTP locked up I generally travel on award tickets unless a conference is in the itinerary.I have quite a few AA miles and it will take a year or two to get through them.
Mrsdrron continues with QFF for our Flounge opportunities. Her points get used on JASAs for us or upgrading J-F on QF.She will reach LTS this year.
My aim with my QFF points is family transfer to mrsdrron where they become more valuable.
We dont do much domestic flying, ours is mostly longhaul OS.
My next aim is LTG with SPG when my 5 years are up in 6 months then head for LTP.
Sorry for going a little OT but it is AFF and quite a few of us use multiple programs. My Amex points go to SQ and we have joined the US buy your awards program this year.
