What's your Uber experience?

It's around 20% of the cost of service. There is a tipping function inbuilt into the app and allows you to specify country. Clearly the drivers don't know if you've used that function.

Ah, will check as the initial point of Uber was the no need to carry cash appeal. We always thought the price included tip for the driver.

wheres the tipping function in the uber app.

One of uber's arguments about not explicitly including tips is that it make skew the uber supply to areas where potentially tips are more generous

The problem with Uber is that the "great money" it says uber partners earn is not true. So there's noise about tipping to supplement it.

Is that "noise" from the US or here in Oz? If it's here, I'd be against a tipping fee to supplement income. As far as I'm concerned, a tip is for exceptional service, not to supplement income and paid to all regardless of attitude, knowledge and service. The US has coughised the tipping concept into that very model, which does nothing to encourage good, quality service in the service industry.

I guess you can file this under 'Uber' experience. Whilst parked recently in the US, an Uber driver side-swiped the back of my rental car. It was interesting.

Me (politely) "oh that's a shame. Just give me your details and insurance will sort it out"
Uber: "....." (not saying anything, blank stare)
Me: "you got your licence handy?"
Uber: *gets rag from boot and starts 'polishing' the scratch in my plastic bumper*
Me: "ahh, mate, don't worry about it, it's a rental car fully insured they will sort that out"
Uber: "vat do you vant?"
Me: "your licence and registration please"
Uber: "....." *steps back and looks at bumper, clearly waiting for me to say forgeddaboutit*
Me: *forcefully* "listen mate, give me your ****ing licence right now or I'm calling the cops. WTF is wrong with you buddy?"

The thing is, what I didn't realise is you have to call the cops in those circumstances. It's not like Oz where they only come if someone is injured. Cops are part of the process and duly filed a report. Crazy waste of time.

I also took quite a few Ubers and did not tip any of them. My rating is 4.71

all the noise is from the US (that Ive heard). Though my experience is that service is sometimes over the top in the USA in order to chase the tip. Typical waiter/ress in the restaurants always seem to interrupt your dinner convo in order to project their presence on you. Its very annoying.

Where do you find your uber rating (as a rider)?

Edit - found my rider rating 4.73 (but not via the app - had to use the laptop version)
Interestingly you cant see your rating per ride

I found it randomly last night in a weird place. Will try find again. I'm sure I saw it but can't find it. Maybe too much Rose?

Just used Uber again today City > Cottesloe Beach and return. Again, fantastic service and now I understand ingogo, I won't be using them again.

The only positive with the underwhelming ingogo taxi service is that I got a bonus 250 points from QFF. I'll happily give up on both the QFF 250 points for the first 4 rides as well as the Amex CC offer. Spent $48 on the Airport to City transfer, should have chosen Uber to save $28-odd (if the fair on UberX is $1/km and it's about 20 kms)

I didn't see it in the App, but found it in the website version - sign in, go to "payments" https://riders.uber.com/payment. This is what I see:

Gratuity for TAXI
Your preferred gratuity will be applied to any future TAXI trips that you request through Uber. This will apply to TAXI fares only (not Black, SUV, or uberX) and be paid to your driver. Gratuity only applies in certain countries.

  • That's the wording I saw in the app. I don't have my pc with me.

By contrast, I can't see my rider rating (using the web version on my laptop)...can somebody help me? Thought it would be under profile, but nada.

I couldn't follow the suggested steps using the App, but did find it eventually in the web version:
https://help.uber.com/h/e9302f73-8625-427f-abf7-dbe7ab25af7d

Thanks. I was trying to use the Google approach but nothing matched what my app shows. I did find a page on tipping however. It says it is not included nor possible except with Uber Taxi (whatever that is), however we are free to tip the driver personally if we like.

I must be a nice bloke!

Uber eats:
Thought I would try it .

Context:
Lunch
Wednesday
Restaurant to workplace 4 km
$120

Order cancelled by uber 5 min later. Restaurant didn't cancel - they offered to continue order but as takeaway (pickup). Told restaurant it wasn't me who cancelled and we could not pickup.

Maybe driver had better fare after seeing destination was only 4 km Away?
