What's your Uber experience?

Doesn't a booking with Uber already include the destination?

Yes, although not mandatory. It only becomes visible to the driver once they start the trip. Ie, they can't see it prior to picking you up.

Currently sitting in DiDi car en-route to MEL - driver tells me ALL Uber drivers now onboard with DiDi - DiDi rates considerable cheaper than Uber - driver com to Uber 30% v Didi 5%.

DiDi offering significant discounts across the board so don’t miss them.

DiDi has previously driven Uber out of China -Australia may well be on track also

Update: There is a very famous Chinese saying - ‘Believe not what the ear hears - believe only what the eye sees!’

Here are my last 2 rides with Uber from Parkdale to MEL:

Here is my ride with DiDi this morn:

Same timing for same flt ex MEL - if that’s not the ultimate ‘no brainer’ What is?

One that operates across Australia. :-)

Didi only operates in Melbourne at this point. Fine if you're there and only there, but you still need to use others if you need to travel anywhere else in Australia.

I get into front seat of Uber and find that footwell has lot of rubbish - fast food bags McDonald’s and Hungry Jack. I mention to driver and he say “what the problem? You are getting a cheap ride!” Well that is fair enough but I can still give him a low rating.

Does anyone know how Uber works pricing if you want to drop someone else off on the way home and it's only a bit out of the way compared to quite a way out of the way

Same pricing as normal, regardless of how out of the way.

You choose the drop off as your destination, then when you reach there, change destination in the app to your home. Pricing just covers total distance and time like one trip.

As a regular Uber user, I got into a taxi for the first time in quite a while yesterday.
Terrible service, terrible driving, driver very disgruntled.
Back to Uber

Seems it's luck of the draw in either service at base level. Though as you get the premium ranges in each, the service is better.

It has been a while since I caught an Uber anywhere. My latest effort was yesterday from the airport (Melbourne ) to the city. Decided to go with an XL , car was a Kluger, base model I think , driver was middle eastern and while the car itself is roomy ( I have owned a Kluger in the past) great legroom in the rear. The driver has no idea how to drive with pax. Car swaying constantly, too heavy on brake and acceleration, awful music at very low level, and he decided that he should stop and fill up after we booked the ride! Still about $35.00 less than a cab for the same ride.
It strikes me that the poor driving skills of main steam taxi drivers is overflowing to ride share. Price notwithstanding, my number one reason for using Uber was the point of difference in driving skills. :-(
I think we will just suck it up and catch the airport shuttle for our return journey.

As an irregular user of uber in the past, I have always found it quite variable in service and driving.
This past week though, we have been using uber everyday in Mexico City. Absolutely brilliant. Could not fault any of the 10 rides we had. Average cost of about $5 AUD for 30+ minute tides.

You can also have the same effect by entering multiple destinations, ie. you can go to the final destination via others.

I’ve usually given the final destination and then give the driver some cash for the detour (which isn’t usually major)

So how to Uber calculate the fare?

Used Uber multiple times while on holiday in the Gold Coast back in July and I couldn’t find fault of any of the drivers, cars and service.

What is relevance?
The relevance is that some nationalities do seem to have generic driving issues. It is a broad generalisation with many exceptions and certainly not racist IMHO, but I've also noticed Uber drivers of middle eastern appearance are more often a bit erratic.
