What's your Uber experience?

I gave my first low rating this evening. Last night I took an Uber from the city to Flemington racecourse for a function. The driver was downright dangerous. And he wanted to drop me on Flemington Rd, as opposed to the function centre 700m down the driveway!

My feedback was detailed and objective. Within 15 minutes I had a full refund (which I hadn't asked for) and a personal response.

Wow. Good response from Uber at least. I think this may be the first time I've heard of such a positive reply. Hopefully the driver will be councelled, but this shows the importance of accurate feedback.

I left my keys in the Uber the other week. My car had been serviced and I was going to collect it. So the garage had my spare keys in the car when I arrived. I had my full set to lock up the house but as it was all a different pattern I had my keys in my hand when getting in. I’ve also been chucking out heaps of stuff in downsizing. As I got home I knew I’d either put them in the bin, left them in the garage or the Uber. We have a spare key out back so getting in wasn’t an issue. Emptied the rubbish bin  then clicked through the Uber app which has a section - lost something - click that and it calls you back to connect to the Uber driver for that trip. Sure enough he had my keys and returned them the next morning as he was now at work.

Brilliant.

As an aside he didn’t know which pax lost them. He picked up 2 guys after my trip and the keys were sitting on seat between them. They said nothing.

Straightaway then he picked up a woman. First thing she said was ‘look, someone left their keys’. Well, clearly she had a girls look and thought a bit.

The price from Kambah to CBR has increased in the last year or so (when I first took an Uber) from low $40's to low $50's.

I'm yet to have anything other than a good (or great) experience, so compared to the $70-odd dollarydoos it cost in a taxi a year or so ago, I'm still a fan.

I tried to use Ola and couldn't get a driver.

I use Ola more now, yes it generally takes a bit longer to find a driver but at $15 vs $25 plus for my normal fare Ill wear it.

At CBR yesterday, it said that the area is not serviced. I tried moving the little pin around and could see cars near Pialligo/Majura but wouldn't allow an airport location. I noticed that the sign at the waiting area at the airport listed only Uber, Gocatch and Glide (??). I'm keen to see these competitors succeed to keep Uber honest.

Tried Uber eats for the first time over weekend.

Ordered food, eta 715. Then time kept changing.

Restaurant called at 720 - yes it's sitting here ready to go.

Food arrived 755.

Would have been faster to walk and get it.
If it had said 755 at the time of ordering, we'd have just phoned the restaurant and collected ourselves.

Wont be using again in a hurry.

That’s only 35 minutes? That’s pretty quick.

I used Uber for the first time yesterday (Wanted a couple of drinks for Fathers Day). I was a bit edgy about using them. However, the experience was very positive. The second driver said that he drives Uber to get away from his wife! I gave both drivers five stars. The fare was $48 each way from East Burwood to Thonbury (Melb). Not sure if the fare was reasonable or not.

Ordered circa 640p

It’s baiting/entrapment/poor to quote a particular arrival time and then just blow it out.

From past experience this restaurant can do order to pickup in 20m. It’s a 2m drive so 10m for delivery is plenty.

Received email notice that uber will now be pulling out bans for passengers below a minimum rating (which they don't officially disclose).

However, Fairfax checked and confirmed that the Australian threshold for riders is a rating of 4.

Uber riders with low ratings to be banned under new rules

Fairly game move given the number of ride share mobs currently working. I don't disagree with it, but I hope they are doing the same thing for the drivers and also have worked out how to discourage rubbish mark-downs by both driver and pax. It's been reported that some Uber drivers will mark down a pax for closing a door too hard, not closing a door hard enough, talking, not talking, using a phone etc etc. They need to really justify the rating, but then it would need staff to read those justifications.

Most annoying is getting a call at the airport and being asked your destination. The driver then says sure, no problem and "I'll see you in 5 mins" and immediately after the call the trip is cancelled.

If a driver takes you on a long ‘extended’ drive, there was an option to click a link that then refunded me the inflated price paid vs the original quote.

My $15 Manhattan fare turned into $29 due to the driver taking me for a scenic tour so I clicked the not happy extended trip link and instantly refunded me back.

I used Lyft for the next few trips and they are essentially all Uber drivers offering both. Lyft has plenty of promo code offers if you are in the states. Highly worth a look to save some cash considering the poor exchange rate currently.
