What's your Uber experience?

I'm sure I asked this before but how do you guarantee you're going to get a larger car. Just about to go away with four people and only one of us if petite
No way to book a “larger car” in the UberX
Only once a car is coming can you see what car it is. Obviously that requires you to be familiar with the size of the car.

If travelling as 4 book into UberXL UberSUV or similar or book 2x UberX

Thanks for the info re larger cars - will be in Brisbane in early September so will remember that. I'm presuming you can book Uber to pick you up at BNE airport

I'm in Canberra and I just tried to request an Uber for my parents at MEL. Computer said no (some type of error processing the request), despite following the Uber help menu which has a section on how to do it. Tried a bunch of things like turning off the location, different terminals, log out/in.

Has there been a change?

I tried this again the other day and had no problems at all, so no change. Must've been a one-off thing.

You're welcome Happy Dude.

I've generally noticed Uber X increasing in price (possibly close to 50% over the last couple of years in Cairns at least), so perhaps the headline discount is not all discount.

I think there would be many drivers in Cairns who would be interested in any evedinece you have that proves that, as Uber has promised that the pricing has not changed on Uber X for both drivers and riders.

Last night our trip into the city cost $38 because of high demand. Yet the car arrived within 4 minutes. How on earth does that demonstrate high demand. The trip home from same location was $17.

I don’t know if Uber drivers can game the system anymore to artificially trigger a surge period by logging off, but in the past that was the rumour

It really come down to the value of your time. But I’ve found that be waiting a bit surge pricing moderates or dissapears altogether

Doesn't mean there isn't high supply as well. Just a lot of people making bookings at that time.

In Sydney, there's been a number of increases to customers, one of the most recent the NSW taxi industry levy, but others have been to increase charges.

Even the most recent one, "fixed price" has been about increasing charges.

That's not difficult. A year or two ago I regularly paid about $12-$14 for a CNS to H-CNS ride (or vice versa) and now I regularly pay marginally under $20 and less than $18 is no more, ever! Surge pushes that to anywhere between $25 and $45. I'd still have many of the Uber receipt emails I should imagine.

Interesting stuff considering know one has had an offical price increase. (I certianly haven't in 3 years) Maybe Cairns is an exception....
