What's your Uber experience?

Another bad uber experience. Took my car for a service and the dealer organised an uber to drop me off to work. The whole car stinks of BO and I can barely sit in the car.
This is the second driver as the first saw me and just kept driving and didn’t cancel the ride or reply to my messages and calls.

I find that with Uber that so long as I stick to 'Comfort' or higher, then there is rarely any issues. Drivers need to maintain a minimum 4.85 rating from no fewer than 20 rides, and they need to have a vehicle from a limited list and nothing older than 7 years from manufacture. Unless I was really stuck, I'd never choose Uber X or even XL, as the options vary too wildy to be reliable. These can be vehicles of up to 15 years (!), and no minimum rating for the driver. Only requirement of the X/XL vehicle is that they have 4 doors, have working windows and air conditioning, and are able to pass a pink slip inspection. I'm better than this :D

Booked an uber in Sydney last week and was very disappointed to find that it allocated me a taxi. Worse still it was dirty and the driver had offensive BO. IME Ubers are usually cleaner as the driver generally owns the car.

Very cheeky since Taxi owners got a huge pay out from the Uber class action and now are booking jobs via Uber.

The uber app is far far superior to 13 Taxis app but there doesn't seem to be a way to exclude/opt out of being assigned a Taxi. Only other place I've seen a taxi take Uber bookings is in Ireland.
It happens in Japan too but I'd be mighty pi55ed off if I got a taxi through Uber here. The reasons you describe, together with drivers constantly talking on the phone, were the reasons I stopped using taxis. Taxi drivers have no skin in the game so the service level settled to a very low bar.

I too often end up on DiDi on price, after checking Uber, except for work trips due to the business account that my company uses. I haven't any of the nasty experiences reported here, from either company, but I'm sure my luck will run out one day.

Maybe it due to my high rating or just luck but even booking Uber X I rarely get a coughpy car. So far this week my uber X rides have been in a Tesla, Polestar, BMW and an Audi.

The taxi last week was by far the worst car in a long long while.

Fairly sure a driver told me that Didi also remunerated much better vs Uber.
That seems a bit odd … maybe for a driver, responding to an Uber request has other positives that responding to a DiDi request doesn’t? I’ve waited for 45mins once for a DiDi that kept not turning up (because DiDi was normally cheaper), so I gave-up and tried Uber … someone turned up within about 90 seconds, and they had both logos sticky-taped to the window. Not the only time I tried DiDi and got no response despite the app telling me there would be one, but the best example I have of the same driver working both & choosing Uber over DiDi.

I believe Didi's commission rate is lower but is generally has less riders and doesn't surge as high as Uber, so drivers still prefer Uber at least some of the time.
