are you still in Cornwall - I know it was the site of the first transatlantic undersea cable but don't know of any political storms there.

Yes, still in Cornwall, and one bay around from my previous post about Mullion. The Marconi Wireless station at Poldhu was an early wireless station, so not an undersea cable. The political furore came about when the British Government contracted with Marconi to build wireless stations (there were several on the Lizard) and it was discovered that several government members had bought shares - an early insider trading scandal. This photo from Wikipedia shows the setup:
