I have confidence in Thai surviving. Their planes are always full... it seems to be more a case of (mis)management rather than actually being able to get money through the door. Plus they have a (a) a good reputation with Australians (willing to fly them rather than say Garuda) and (b) a big tourism base to rely on. People want to go to Thailand.

SAA has split from SA Airlink but kept the money for the codeshares/not honoring flights to/from Kruger.

So someone like me, who paid for flights to/from Kruger with SAA but its Airlink metal. Im told SAA will keep the $ as a credit and good luck with getting to/from Kruger.

Given that the large rectangular vehicles which drive on highways take about 4 hours to get to Nelspruit, I suspect I would not have even queried the airline route.
Yes I did this to get to Gabarone - only slightly further...

Well Virgin Atlantic is asking for the loan, and they are a UK taxpayer, so the founders own taxpayers status isnt really relevant, he isnt askig for a handout. Not to mention most of the employees pay UK tax, and probably wont be paying much more if their company folds.
