Which cards have you applied for this year (2016)?

Out of curiosity how many cc have you applied for this year Dr Ralph? You seemed to consistently get approval for new cc application

I'm not at home ATM so don't have access to my spreadsheet, but I think 8 so far. I plan to do 3 more before the end of the year. Just waiting for all of my AMEX small shop credits to post so I can cancel those cards as well as my Bankwest bonus points + HSBC bonus points.

Ha.. Brilliant!
Do you find that churning 8/10 per year hammers your credit score?

Applied this year: 6
NAB velocity platinum (twice)
ANZ QF black
Westpac QF Altitude
Jetstar MC
Explorer

Cancelled: 5

NAB velocity platinum (once)
Citi QF Signature
Westpac QF Altitude
AMEX velocity platinum
ANZ QF black

Holding: 3
J* MC
Explorer
NAB velocity platinum

Next
Find a replacement for the Jetstar MC and apply
Cancel Jetstar MC
Apply for a second AMEX offering - was thinking either QF Ultimate or Edge but the free flights are not as convenient to where I live.

It is surprising how lucrative the signup bonuses are for those who can

I had planned on keeping the J* MC, before the recent enhancements it suited me perfectly. The Explorer seems like a keeper for me - the $400 travel credit is far easier and more flexible for me to use due to my location (and I will get SC for the flight/s)

I have added the Amex Ultimate to my applications bringing it to 7 for the year but as yet have not found a good replacement for the J* MC so still holding.

Yes it has an impact.

But as I have discussed previously, it's not as much as people think or as important as people think.

Income, ability to repay and defaults are very important to any finance provider.

And you should also remember that many financial providers don't actually check your records in making a decision. For example, AMEX have never had a request on my credit file.

Yes, follow this thread religiously:

Current Credit Card Promotions

Cancel any card that you get the moment that the bonus points land. Do no waste even a second on this process.

Repeat this phrase "Loyalty equals death".

Got my new credit score and it jumped up to Excellent... My hands are itching to apply for a new one but I cant seem to find another one that I want (velocity). Have to search through this thread more carefully. Need one to replace my Amex/Visa combo with ANZ.

I have Amex Platinum Velocity referral if you would like to help out and get some extra points in the process.

Already have that one, as I said, I am looking for a combo (Amex/visa or mastercard) as I need something other then Amex to use at merchants that dont take all cards.... Time to do some homework I guess :D Missed out on NAB... perhaps Westpac Black. At least that is 50,000 velocity points when transferring.

Cancelled in 2016 from 2015:
Velocity Amex gold
Velocity Visa Flyer

Applied:
NAB Rewards premium (cancelled)
60k for 150

ANZ QFF Black (cancelled)
75k for 0

Westpac QFF platinum (waiting on bonus points)
40k for 0

Going to apply:
NAB 75k for 150

not sure after that, only interested in QFF points for free, because I fly VA mostly.

I've added to the list the second NAB 75k for 150 (cancelled)

St George 30k QFF for 0

AMEX explorer 75k KF points for $-5 (that's how I see it anyway)

Considering the Citibank 150k points bonus right now... hmmm....

That brings me to 6 for the year. Between my partner and I we have enough for 2 pax Virgin J to LAX and 2 pax Singapore F to LHR. It's quickly getting to the point where we can fly 'free' at the front of the plane for an annual holiday each year.

This would be the one that might suit you. Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Cards | Virgin Money

This used to give 50k bonus Velocity points but has since dropped to 40k.
Sigh - I used to have the Virgin Money cards back in the good 2 for 1 days. Now, the earn rate on the Flyer is pathetic, and the High Flyer is OK but you have to generally spend thousands each month for 5 or 6 months to get the bonus - so its drip fed to you. No thanks. These days, my wife maintains her Virgin Flyer and threatens to quit each year - as the $129 fee offsets the $129 annual credit. And they waive the fee for her each year. So my go to card for VISA/Mastercard now is the Macquarie Black, with its 40k bonus points and $1 QFF point per dollar up to $4000 a month which is very generous considering majority spend is on AMEX. Best of all is the $99/fee for first year, and I will simply cancel it when my anniversary is due and get the missus to sign up so we alternate each year.

Does this work if your partner is a stay at home mum and applies? Do they consider the combined income for her? I got my first rejection ever today. Was keen on the Virgin High Flyer but got the letter today saying I can try again in 3 months if my situation changes. I think my churning may have been the reason as I have had five successful applications in the last 12 months and all my income and credit history numbers are great.

After reading this I need to up my game!

Applied this year - 1
QANTAS Ultimate
But going to apply for NAB 75k Qantas also

Applied and Cancelled - 1
Amex Platinum

Holding - 3
NAB Velocity Plat
AMEX Velocity Plat
NAB Premium Card (only used for car expenses to make life easy at tax time)

Next Steps:
Cancel NAB and AMEX Velocity cards and replace

Any other tips/advice welcome. I'm chasing Qantas points :p

Updated - just added QANTAS Ultimate into the mix

Love the insight in this thread!

Applied this year:
NAB velocity (twice!!)
ANZ black
Citi visa (prestige maybe? 75000 points which equated to 37500 velocity / KrisFlyer points)

Cancelled

NAB velocity
Virgin money (well, kept it cause they waived the fee & let me keep the flight voucher)
AMEX velocity

Next
cancel NAB when bonus points arrive
Apply AMEX Explorer (fingers crossed)
Cancel ANZ before 12 months are up

I need need to think about widening my net beyond velocity points to Qantas as Velocity opportunities are fewer, but am hoping for a Singapore Suites trip in 2018! Decisions.....

update- applied for the amex explorer (110,000) & ANZ adventure (60,000) last week and approved for both. That's 6 credit cards this year, I woud think my credit rating must be a disaster, but amex didn't require any supporting docs, and ANZ just asked for a payslip (didn't worry about rental income docs I've had to supply previously)

I honestly don't know what to look at next- happy to hear any suggestions?

How many direct Amex are you holding? What direct Amex have you had recently ? (other than the Velocity and Explorer that are listed)

The QF Ultimate has a good bonus atm, and there are AFF referrals available (including mine ;))
