Which cards have you applied for this year (2016)?

How many direct Amex are you holding? What direct Amex have you had recently ? (other than the Velocity and Explorer that are listed)

The QF Ultimate has a good bonus atm, and there are AFF referrals available (including mine ;))

Just the explorer, I cancelled the velocity in August.

With no qantas status, am i going to be able to get 2 x J tickets home from Europe??

As an AFF member with access to all of the info needed you will have a better chance than most others.

Int. J awards on QF are hard to find for non status pax but not impossible.

They can be found with less difficulty on OW partner airlines such as CX

I guess I might need to step outside of my velocity comfort zone and do some research!
Am flying QF for the first time in 6 years in March, so that's a start :-)

Great thread - very informative for trying to gauge how many applications one can get away with per year.

Questions:

Steady - did you get 2 x bonus for NAB velocity card that you took out twice in the same year?

Churning - how do people balance insurances/card protections vs cutting up a card as soon as the bonus lands? I throw my big purchases onto the card I'm chasing minimum spend, but when its time to cut up I've either got extended warranty or travel insurances that I'm keen to keep... I need to be more organised I guess...

AMEX issued cards - terms and conditions, and commentary from pointhacks, states that sign on bonuses will only be awarded every 18 months. Other reports seem to indicate this isn't followed in practice. What are peoples experiences? I cancelled an Amex card a few months ago, do I have to ignore the amex explorer until 2018?

Applied this year:
NAB Velocity Premium - $150 - 60k
NAB Velocity Premium - $150 - 75k (in +1 name)
Westpac Altitude Black - $400 - 100k QF

Cancelled this year:
Amex velocity platinum
Citibank emirates world mastercard

Holding:

None outside above applications

Plans:
Post holiday cancel 1 x NAB premium, possibly 2 x.
Possibly squeeze in additional application this year, last application was October. Been waiting for another 100k velocity option, but may take a large QF option instead. Citibank 75k possibly.

I tend to purchase separate travel insurance. Yes there is an additional cost compared with using what's included with a credit card, but I'm fine with that.

There is consumer law that can give some of the benefits of an extended warranty anyway so the value of extended warranties provided by credit cards may be limited.

Having said that I haven't applied for any credit cards for over 6 months. Changing cards can be a bit of a pain. I'm hoping to churn my way through more cards next year.

Costco US Citibank card is on its way to me in the next week. Costco US stopped their acceptance of many credit cards including our Amex Premier Rewards CC and Citi American Airlines Executive CC.
My Australian Citibank Prestige works at Costco US but I don't like the 3.4% foreign exchange fee nor the exchange rate. This new card will overcome those two issues.

Applied this year:
NAB QFF Platinum VISA / AMEX - 75k for $250
ANZ QFF PLAT - 75k for $0

Cancelled this year:
Amex discovery
Citibank - premium rewards
28 degrees

Holding:
None outside above applications

Plans:
Cancel NAB within the next week as just posted points
Apply for AMEX Explorer 100k if points get credited
Apply for westpac 100k if amex doesnt get up

I aim to turnover 3 cards a year and have for a few years but reading this thread makes me feel like an underachiever.
For those of you who turnover a lot of cards don't the banks start refusing you cards when they see your history?

No. Income and ability to repay are very important factors.

CX are a pretty good option, they usually have good availability if you book as soon as they are released 360 days out.
All J seats have aisle access, they fly to a number of European cities and their lounges at HKG are good.

Thanks flapper, appreciate your help: I will check them out!

Yes Bankwest World runs 80,000 Qantas FF points for $240. They do knock back applicants who have high CC limits elsewhere as their credit team don't like folks who have large limits that are not being used. I guess they figure someone could do a cash drawdown and head off into the sunset.

$240 for the annual fee for 0.6ppd!! Good job they are offering 80,000 bonus points. I'm glad I'm on a grandfathered fee from my Platinum days although I only got an 8,000 point sign on bonus.

Mr_Orange those points are 0.3 cents each less any tax deduction you may/may not get.

Amex Velocity $350 annual fee. 110 K plus 120K referral bonuses (plus one for my SIL who didn't want a card at the time so I paid for and applied for his) 110K bonus pts. (both cancelled)

ANZ Rewards Black $150 annual fee (?) 75K rewards points (transferred to Velocity at 2-1 plus 35% bonus) 50K or so Velocity pts (cancelled)

3 x NAB Velocity Platinum (total $450 annual fees) 60K + 75K + 75K (still waiting for 3rd lot) total 210K (will cancel the 3rd one soon)

Westpac Black free annual fee existing customer. 50K rewards points (transferred Velocity 15% transfer bonus) 30K Velocity points. (cancelled)

Virgin (Citi bank) 30K I think.

Just applied for an Amex Velocity for the Mrs. Now able to use household income. So will get another 80K Velocity pts soon.

I have all the details on a spreadsheet in my other computer.

After having zero Velocity points a little over a year ago we have a current balance of 537,000 and another 155,000 pending.

We do 4-6 cruises a year and some land travel so I just meet the minimum spend paying for these. The Singapore flight will get us back from China after a repo cruise-land holiday starting in April. Never even considered booking in J until I discovered CC bonuses. (better late than never)

Have already booked and paid points for Singapore J from Beijing-Singapore-Sydney next July.

That has more than paid for any annual fees...the rest is bonus. Have also used free flights, lounge passes etc.

I wish I had asked for pro rata annual fee reimbursement but I now know for next churn.

Will go again once 12-18 months waiting periods expire.

Just added the Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard into the collection.
50,000 bonus Qantas points, $270 pa, no international transaction fees, quick upgrade to Gold status with SPG and Priority Pass, this card looked like a better deal then the Westpac Black with only $2000 spend to get the points.

Now I just need to cancel my ANZ Rewards Black :)

How can bonus points be offered on an invite only card?

I meet the requirements, but not gone through with the form.

BW World is no longer invitation only. They have made it available to all and sundry and ditched the Gold card.
