Who here have FF status soley based on holiday/personal self paid travel

I think that's what those of us that don't would say until we do it all the time.

I've done two stints of it, once 2 years NZ Aus then another for about a year more recently. Not often in5 star and always glad to get home.

I've always said a work trip a month is ok, a work trip a week or more gets painful very quickly. I don't know how those that do it year after year cope.

My old boss was travelling overseas about 3 weeks of the month, I don't know how he does it and he has family at home.

Hubbys status is self funded. I get occasional work trips but if they are sending me to France or the US for 4 days, I tack on 2 weeks of leave to make it worth my while. Hubby tags along because 1, I wont leave home without him and 2, he'll follow me if I tried.

Once a month sounds manageable. I can see why those that are away more than that quickly become jaded.

I had 7 overseas trips and a number of domestic trips for the company that employed me 10-11 years ago.

I have been commuting SYD-BNE for the past 7 years and paying for everything.

I would love it if my job involved travel. I am not on of those people that needs to be attached to someone outside of work.

I think most (all?) of us here love travel. I would love to travel a "reasonable" amount for work. However the definition of "reasonable is obviously different for everyone.

As for your SYD-BNE commute. That's your choice, not actually work travel.

It's just that reading FT shows how there's plenty of people who quickly get over the whole idea once they start spending a lot of time on the road.

Most trips, I would leave in the morning hubby was asleep, I return in late afternoon to say hello and change and return at night and he was asleep or out. He has a great time, last trip to the US he went on a road trip to scuba dive and homestay with the Amish.

When I use to travel solo, all I saw was hotel, office, restaurant and airport - now I see a lot more because Ive gotten selfish with my time.

Depends how you look at it.

I would love to travel for work in business/first and stay in 5 star hotels.

And clog your arteries !!! Be careful what you wish for ..,..

I don't think anyone said work travel was glamorous but I like the idea. I did it once and miss it. I would love to see the world at someone else's expense. And I will make the time to do it. Evenings, tack on a weekend here and a weekend there.

Regardless what people think my commute is work related travel. It is my choice but it is no different. I still get tired. I still get sick of it. But it pays to keep my hobbies going.

Nearly all leisure for me. 6yrs SG QFF with VA Gold for 2 and Plat for 1. Am fortunate though that I can claim a lot as a deductible expense. Have managed to maintain SG in both programs for the last two years but will most likely let the Velocity slide as I'm a little bored that things haven't progressed much from the initial enthusiasm and promise of big things to come.

I am platinum, entirely self funded. This is with a lot of help from this site on J class ASAs and F status runs in USA. Already have 2 MASAs booked for 2014-15 FF year (commencing 1 Sep) and a few AA flights in F, so I may keep WP next year. Not possible after then, but am aiming for lifetime gold. I will miss the F lounges.

Employment kicked started my VFF status chase commuting between BNE & MKY/BDB, which in turn gave me the cash for my own leisure trips; I'm a WP now, but probably would be stuck at SG without the work travel.... Or prehaps even still a Red xD

I'll drop to SG and maintain as best I can from next year most likely now being a FT Student and not having the cash flow as much. Such is life

I'm going to hit QFF Silver at the end of September, little bit of an accomplishment considering my flights and holidays are entirely self-funded, don't earn all that much and live and pay rent by myself

I'm on my second year of WP, and well on the way to requalifying for a third. Still completely self-funded, but it's a lot easier to do so being SIN based.

4400 QF SCs this year so far, all but 60 are personal.

1000 VA SCs or so all personal.

My original DONE4 four years ago that got me to WP for the first time was personal.

Would love to be able to do that work-funded. Or at least tax-deductible.

Another WP funded flyer here, loved JASA's and doubles, only do about 2 dom. and 2 int. a year now so its goodbye to WP come 1st Nov., so will enjoy it while we can.

It is not that difficult especially in premium long haul cabins. I did 2400 SCs exactly last membership year and a lot of that was economy but not torture.

I am kissing goodbye my WP this December 14. Held it for two years completely self funded. With QF rule changes not able to attain WP here on in, not enough money but I think as I become more moneywise I will just use the Priority Pass lounges and pay the access fee!
