Yep, if I don't use mine it falls back into my account.

actually I know a few people in my company who purchase it with the plan not to use it so working it like a forced savings.

Exactly what I do! (Although the temptation to travel is usually too great and I end up with very little in forced saving!)

Absolutely!

You would be guaranteed at least another 27 months of lounge access for your travels - at the minumum.

27 months of lounge access. I thought only 12 ??

Ok lounge access until the end of the membership year, i.e. Dec 2012, then WP until Dec 2013 and then a soft landing to SG with membership (and lounge access) until Dec 2014, all guaranteed with no flying once WP is attained.

So I can get to 25 months.

I am thinking of doing MEL-SYD-MEL on Xmas day, come along.

(assuming like me, you don't have a life!)

Flounge run? JQ29 & JQ1 are operating.

I have two vouchers that expire on 25/26th so might do ADL-SYD-ADL on the day. Lucky for me QF81 is running.

When one soft lands to PS (God Forbid!) you get:

  • a PS card,
  • a lounge invitation and
  • a QP card valid for 3 months. ;)

I would say 70% of my flying is for work. But 70% of my status credits are from personal travel in higher classes.

All leisure travel for me - but am able to maintain QF WP with the help of JASA - which are often funded from points earned via my Business GST, Tax payments etc.

Im VA Gold and this has been achieved through all personal & holiday in the last 12-18 months . I was lucky enough to get a great redundancy in April 2011 , which allowed me to spend nearly 7-8 months travelling both internationally , visiting the US , Canada , HK, Macau, Singapore & China , & domestically visiting DRW, MKY, ADL, HBA , MEL & OOL . Most of it was in Y+ or Y , with a couple of J trips thrown in. Going to struggle to retain Gold by April 2013, so hoping the DSC gods smile on me at sometime.

i work for a large company that certainly isn't public service and I have the option to purchase/salary sacrifice 1-4 weeks of additional leave a year.
I would love to be able to purchase 4 weeks extra annual leave or even 8 weeks but for now 2 weeks extra annual leave is the maximum on offer.

I managed to reach Gold Status with Virgin over an 18 month period, I was doing long distance with my boyfriend who lived in Melbourne. I was flying Brisbane-Melbourne at least once a month, sometimes more. I've since moved to Melbourne, so probably not going to maintain my Gold Status beyond next year but it was nice while it lasted! And to think I used to hate flying!
