Who isn't Gold with Velocity these days?

I currently accrue about 300 QF SCs a month. I'd like to spread some of my spend around, but DJ declined my request for tier match today (I got some cough about giving me my life story and then being referred to sales).

All of my spend is out of my pocket, so a corporate account sales pitch doesn't work.

I'd make DJ gold in less than 60 days but I'm not going to give up QF Platinum benefits to get there. Will continue to fly periodically on the Velocity PE reward tickets, but I'm not going to be Gold with Velocity...

I am not and not likely to be either - but I am very glad more people are moving off QF and onto DJ ;) here's hoping for quieter lounges over at the QP J Lounge :)

I'm with you simongr. Sounds like it's you, me and JohnK.

I'm not even a Velocity member :o

You can add me to that list also ;)
I don't find a lot of difference between them and Deathstar flying from NTL. I'm not remotely interested in flying J on Etihad etc.
If they :
1. Open a Lounge at NTL
2. Join * Alliance
I might re-consider

Can I gain Velocity status by redeeming points in J like we do with QF using Any Seat or will I stay Red? I did see I could get lounge access by flying in J so I guess it doesn't matter about status.

I think it comes down to your flying pattern. At this stage, if you mainly do domestic, inter-capital flights, then VA may be the best option. If you do International, Well, QF have the best options for lounges etc. VA are slowly moving forward, but its all so confusing, ie you can get into the lounge on this airline if you fly this flight number, but not this one etc. I know all airlines have certain restrictions, but the current VA international lounge access is a bit too confusing and restrictive.
For me personally, as most of my travel is East Coast Capitals, I have found Virgin offer a satisfactory service that meets my needs. QF Club was getting very crowded, and noisy, and I find the VA lounges more personel, and staff friendlier and more obliging. That said I prefer the seats on the QF 767, even the 738s over the (Virgin blue)738s, which I find very LCC. The new 738's are a different story, but I dont get my Butt in the flash seats anyway, however, usually get row 3, which is quite pleasant, and good for a 1-1.5 hr flight. I have also done a couple of trips on the A330 and found them to be quite comfortable, and on Par with QF, so as a VA Gold, I do still find I miss QF sometimes, but overall for my needs, VA is a perfect fit. Others obviously will have a different set of needs and will stay put, I know I probably would have 2 years ago.

If BNE Business Lounge and Qantas Lounges tonight are any indication then I hope more people move over to Virgin! ;)

Don't forget me!!!
We won't forget you Nick! ;)

Not yet but if they keep copying everything else Qantas does then it won't be long before you will be able to earn.

I'm not :( dropped to Red before the changes and stayed there :( need 153 SC's before end of the year so looking for a couple of runs then need to target Gold.

Who isn't Gold with Velocity these days?

There was an interesting discussion I had with a few AFF members during the weekend, and none of us were Velocity Golds. Maybe all the Golds are making the noise and drowning out the rest of us. There is a large number of us who aren't Velocity Gold.

My main frequent flyer program of choice is Qantas, partly because I am a Qantas Club Life Member, and due to the overseas benefits through Oneworld.

I am also staying with QF.

J lounges with only a couple of people sound great.

We don't want just anybody at Virgin. ;)

Remember to fly a bit on the other side of the fence, you may just one day find you can get a better deal elsewhere! Always best to keep your eyes wide open, companies rely on blind loyalty. And I'm not just saying this, I do it as well.

When something works I stay with it. QF works for me and my staff so I don't feel the need to try DJ.

That is pretty much where I sit.

I have 3 members of staff that I approve QP membership for, and I encourage them to fly QF and OW to take advantage of it.

That's the same logic as always going to the same restaurant and not trying the new one across the street.

Good luck then.....

The same logic that keeps my clients using my company and not trying the competitors.

..but when the restaurant across the street doesn't offer better food why would one switch?

Didn't say switch, just try the food now and then because it could well be better than the food you're already getting now or in the future.
