I just don't get why these people come and post in the virgin forum that they will never even try Virgin....

Members earn 5 Points per $1 spent with Velocity, was that expensive BNE-MKY fare $24?
Sorry left a zero off so have corrected it-must proof read more. The burn rate was my major point.

No worries, although the burn rate is very good if you pick the right (more expensive) redemptions and add some cash for domestic legs, not sure of the ditch redemptions but 6900 velocity points + $150 will get you J to PER ;).

But that's not the everyday rate.Just looked at a few dates in November and 6900 points + $198 got you an economy award SYD-PER.$213 if from BNE.
Using AA it is 17500 miles whenever and from where ever for a J one way award.

It is everyday where there is a J/PE reward available, you need to go to the points + pay section to get it......and its available in under 24 hours, this screen shot was from 25 Jul at 9PM

I did go to the points and pay option and it came up as a discount economy award for the days I looked at.And they were days when there was a J service available. But obviously no J awards.

Uh. If there is no award it still offers the equivalent of an any seat award.

On the burn rate I get what you're saying but I need to be somewhere as cheap as possible and any points earned are just a bonus, regardless of what I can do with those points.

Well another who is not a gold virgin.First they didn't comp AA plats.

And your point is what exactly? If i start complaining that <insert random airline here> doesn't comp FF'ers from <insert totally unrelated other random airline here> then seriously guys, it's ok to tell me i'm losing it.

What did you expect?!?

This will shock you but i'm a virgin gold and Qantas does nothing for me when i fly them. Following on from your logic this clearly makes Qantas a bad airline.

Just caught up with markis10 screen shot so I will give it a try seeing I have put Velocity Rewards into active status with the Amex Velocity credit card this morning. Status means nothing if I redeem in J.

Now just where in my post was I complaining that i did not get a status match?
Merely a statement of fact.As the rhetorical question that the title of this thread implies many on AFF that have velocity gold do so because on AFF status match from QFF was fairly publicly offered. Now because I am an OW flyer who prefers Aadvantage I miss out.No problems. But surely you can see it is a reason why I answered that I am not velocity gold?

Now Markis10-I checked further and of course the very next day after my previous check has an award comparable to that you quote.
But-DJ Sometimes have only 1 flight a day with J class, sometimes 3 so not always a J award(though I do seem to have been a victim of Murphy's law and by chance selected a couple of days that obviously have heavy bookings).
And-booking from BNE even though via SYD is offered J is not.
But I have learnt that you should always select the Points + pay option.

To compare I did a check on QFF.Every day from SYD-PER from 29/10 to 21/12 there are at least 3 J classic awards available on one of the flights that day.And from BNE at least 3 awards on the one plane every day from 21/10 until 21/3-yes right through the school holidays. And using Aadvantage will always be 17500 miles.

Also as I have reported before our 2 J Aadvantage awards BNE-AKL were obtained even though no QFF JASAs available on line.

So burn and availability is the other reason I am not tempted to jump ship.

I read the thread title a little differently. That being that since the changes to the way SCs are earnt and surrendered with Velocity altered (ie. min 10 SC per sector and rolling 12 month periods), meant attaining and retaining VFF gold became somewhat easier ($5000 or more easier!)........the comped QFF golds simply added to that ease!

I'm not totally convinced those particular DJ changes are in our best interests BTW, only the fullness of time will tell.

At least you know why I have both my feet in different camps, knowing I can often get an award redemption when I need to for 6900 + cash to me is a good burn option, not to mention the fact that as a DJ Gold I get a lot more points for hire car credit as well.

QF or AA for that matter wont get me to PER from SYD in J for $1250 of rental car spend + $160 odd dollars this afternoon if I needed to book this morning ;)

I agree Markis10 and thanks to you I will now start burning my Velocity points. But as i will be redeeming premium cabin awards no need to consider gold status.
Of course the other part of burn is long haul premium cabin Aawards.Currently just waiting for the final sectors to get to 300 days out to book 2 J awards BNE-IST-BNE for 110000 miles each.I dont think velocity can do that yet.More expensive than usual as no OW airline flies there from BNE so an AA Oneworld award.

Yesterday I booked my BIL from BNE to MEL on DJ PE for 6900 VP and $130 on a Sunday Lunchtime flight.

Cheapest fare was $185 at 6am; rest over $200.

QF had availably for awards at 12K for X (24K for U) and $24 - for him the DJ PE option was better, certainly as he appreciates lounge access.

It's obviously in our best interests until we attain Gold, but maybe after that it's not in our best interests anymore. :) Although, many of us pay to be in the lounge so in that case becoming Gold has no impact on how full the lounges are going to be anyway. At least I can stop consistently not quite making it to Gold and cease paying for lounge membership. It will be nice avioding the queue.

I think the rolling 12 months is fair. I argued it should be like this a long time ago. For me having a fixed cutoff always meant my travel being mostly clumped together rather than spread out was detrimental to my status changing. No recognition was given to the travel I was actually doing over 12 months due to a fixed date, often bang in the middle of what I was doing. I hope nothing changes but if it does it should be the number of SC's required not the 12 month requirement to earn them.

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere already but I can't seem to find it, so apologies for the assumed repetition:

I haven't booked any reward fares since the changes came in - do these redemption flights now earn SCs the same as their paid equivalent??

At this stage, any award flight be it any seat or whatever is still non earning.

I don't think you should earn points on rewards given you not paying anything. But I definitly think you should still get SC's as SC's are recognition for the frequency of flying and if your on the plane that's what your doing.
