We have 12 pax in J class and 168 in Y. What do you think the cleanliness of respective loos will be like? At least, J pax don't climb on the toilet seat with their feet, to say the least. I have been on Jetstar and Tiger , in the years before, and can say that on occasions, I have not even entered some toilet due to previous user's actions.

I dont need to use my feelings, In my experience the cleaniness is the same. The types who squat on seats can also afford business class tickets. I've seen just as much mess in both the front and back at various times on a Qantas domestic 737. I've walked into both to be confronted by an unflushed surprise. I won't assume anything about the state of either toilet.

lol You got me, all I can say is "worse", is just my opinion. On balance across many opinions, just the same...

Perhaps you’re not ageing yet and dealing with the prostate issues that come with it. Over 60s males in particular certainly understand

I've always been advanced for my age and the early signs are present and (being monitored) so the last few years heading into my 60s are going to be interesting.

I saw this thread in the fortnightly newsletter with the first sentence being "Qantas announces at the start of every flight that the up-front toilet is for Business passengers". I can't believe this has 8 pages (so far) of responses, is there a qantas rep on here?

LOL. There are many threads on AFF discussing this topic over the years.

No announcement about up front toilet on the 717 on Sunday. No sign that I could see either.

Why is any of the above discussion (about relative cleanliness, rate of use, habits of Y/J pax, etc) relevant? It's simple. Flight crew, prior to takeoff, clearly directs Y pax to use the Y loos at the rear, while J pax are free to use the J loo at the front. Just follow flight crew direction, don't adopt an attitude of "cough* you, I'll do what I want".

It's simple to me, if Qantas are saying it's a service only available to J class then they should enforce it within reason (such as carts blocking the aisle hence blocking the toilets at the back of the plane).

I haven't seen many responses indicating Qantas are enforcing it at all even though there's simple fixes such as curtains or ropes as virgin do.

Ive got a few flights later in the year and I'm not really looking forward to them at all now

Flights in J or Y?
Hopefully if you are travelling J then you have a flight with the J class amenities in your assigned cabin for your use.
If travelling Y then you will have use of 2 "facilities" at the rear of the Y cabin.

Ok - Y it is !
If you go before you board you should be OK until after meal service hopefully (unless you have a genuine reason of course from which you would ask the crew if needing to enter the J cabin)
It's great to have respectful people flying who don't feel "entitled" to use the J cabin regardless

Anyway back to the point, I would be fairly annoyed if I paid $1000s for a service while others who paid significantly less were also able to utilise unless there were extenuating circumstances. Where is the benefit for the individuals subsidizing the others? I'd love to be in Y on that basis... Anyway good that my flights are on points .....

More relevant is to ask why you presume to know anything about the thoughts of others?
In my experience of being directed to the front on numerous occassions it is completely wrong to think anyone is adopted such an attitude.
As for the annoucement at the beginning. It means nothing. The crew decide what they will and won't allow, and crew do direct people to use the front. That annoucement certainly isn't a reason to get all offended and insult other people

These two go hand in hand. There is at least a foundation for assuming the thoughts of others when they obviously dismiss the announcement at the beginning of the flight and ignore the placard.

Sure, pax may get directed to the front if a cart is blocking the aisle. But perhaps it's a little too convenient that pax decide to use the WCs exactly when the carts are out? (After all, serious FFers know exactly when the carts will be coming out.) And it seems o be a uniquelt Aussie thing. Other airlines where crtains are drawn don't have the same issue.

FAs give pax the benefit of the doubt - rather than embarrassing them - that they have special needs to ignore both the verbal and written instructions to keep out of the forwrd cabin.

So all of that combined, it may not be an unreasonable conclusion to think the attitude of those ignoring the rule is 'these things don't apply to me'.

It's actually completely un-reasonable to assume anything about the thoughts of others when you have absolutely no idea what happened for them to be in the front. The OP and others do not know if a crew member told them to go to the front.

As for deciding to use the WC when the cart comes out, seems a little too conspiratorial to be an actual thing. Besides the cart is out on the golden triangle more often then it is away.

The thing i see most of all on 737 is a passenger comes to the front and hunts around looking confused. My conclusion, they don't know about the front toilet, have never used it and wouldn't be there unless directed by crew. This is what happens MOST often in my experience. When I get up to use the toilet at the back of the plane I am most often directed to the front.

Hanging your hat on some random, meaningless annoucement to pass judgement on other people only reflects on the people making those judgements.

And @MEL_Traveller there is no need to question someone's motive for wishing to go to the toilet when the cart is out. This could be the most convenient time for them. They just remembered or any other excuse possible and it shouldn't matter. The cart is out blocking the single aisle.

Hey JK - I have no problem with Y pax using the J toilet when directed by the crew.
It is only of concern when Y pax use the J toilets when:
- they feel it is their right due to status and don't ask permission from crew first.
- Y pax queue in the J cabin when looking to use J toilet
- the Y toilet is their assigned facility but are simply being lazy.
