Will Qantas have a March 2023 double status credit promotion?

IMO the big difference between last year and this year is the demand profile.

A year ago oz was still coming out of major lockdowns and restrictions were still in place in some places. People were hesitant to travel and QF was ramping up services, but in a tough environment to figure out who might actually fly and where hey could go in a still shifting, but settling environment over time. At any rate, for a number of reasons, QF wanted to stimulate demand and used all those tools to do it. Now of course they were almost too successful in some respects as the ramping up of capacity was slow to meet the pent up demand and related issues like outsourcing of bag handling and other below the wing services couldn't cope for a great deal of time, leading to the issues we all know so well from last year (it has improved a great deal imo both from what I've experienced and seen - but still not perfect of course).

This year, demand is still through the roof and QF honestly can't meet it in some places (look at international, delays to 787's, A380 issues, etc). Look at the airfares globally (not just QF, though they've not been shy in keeping many high it's true) reflecting the demand/supply situation in general. Thus QF really doesn't need t use demand levers right now.

As reported earlier in the thread, QF's financials recently noted the high demand profile and strong outlook for the near and medium term. Again an indication that QF probably doesn't need a DSC promo.

Yes, the recent points club and plus bonus points promos do fit the moul of a demand lever but the target, as discussed, is those who usually book less travel (yes, I accept many high status folks, such as myself, are also PC/+ members due to spend on flights). To me the specific promo geared to PC members specifically is less about demand, but throwing a bone to those folks. After all, the status people who hold PC also aren't likely to be terribly enticed by that offer - they'll book their travel regardless of a points promo as most are likely points rich so more points isn't much of an incentive.

that's just imo.

Still, there's still time for a promo involving SC's :D never say never....
I do think that QF have little incentive to offer DSC when they are filling seats at ridiculous prices. Last year was very different, and I used the DSC offer to make WP for the first time. this year, with the "apology" rollover of 500SC I will easily retain WP, and I am actively pursuing other OW airlines for our Nov-Jan trip. A DSC offer in the next weeks/months would not change that.

I levelled back up to WP last membership year. Without a DSC I’ll let WP go and look to get it back with a later DSC offer.

If QF does a DSC people like me are likely to book flights we otherwise wouldn’t have booked and QF will make more money.

But only those with FF year ends up to the end of June get the apology roll-over; so for anyone with a FF year ending July-Dec they will be looking to make bookings to retain their staus into 2025 and there has always been at least one DSC a year to help with that.

You qualified for WP for the first time in the last 12 months, so did I. But you will only need to earn 700SCs to keep it whereas I and many others need the full 1200SCs so that is why we are wanting a DSC.

The cost is less to QF of giving me a DSC promo as I will still need to fly a decent amount, whereas anyone getting the 500SCs roll-over will fly considerably less.

I get it, but if QF only have half the market for WPs wanting to re-qual, it may mean they will put the DSC off. Time will tell.

Sure but the best time for that half the market is now before their FF year starts, so people can plan ahead. If you leave it to later they will have already booked elsewhere and you lost business.

Probably not. the high load factors already with high yields from prices already being paid are doing that already, and that's the whole point.

Would you pay a higher fare just for DSC? where is the line? And if not you, or those in your situation, QF has enough lining up and paying up as is - as evidenced by full planes, high fares and still a capacity shortfall.

in short, with no offence needed, they don't "need" your extra spend like they did.

Sure you want to stump up for full Y or J, then they'd love that... but at this point QF has no real need of the status chasers to fill their aircraft - they're doing fine as is.

Ultimately, i think the biggest driver will be what their earnings book look like right now and what they want it to look like for the end of Q1 for investors. That's not something we would know and can only speculate on.

If the mods keep changing the title of the thread every month, eventually it will be correct.

Might not be until 2024 however.
That’s about when my forward bookings start to drop off!

I'm wondering if there are any astronomers in the forum who could reflect on what phase the moon needs to be for Uncle Alan to observe for him to decide now is the time for a DSC promotion?

I think i may have to bite the bullet and book my trip to South Africa/Namibia. I've waited 6 weeks now for a DSC. I almost booked a flight on Air Mauritius instead.... but I couldn't get it ex-CBR, just ex-SYD. Prob have to book, then if a DSC happens, I'll do the J run to NZ for a weekend holiday.

So you can all thank me the day after I book my trip, likely this week. I tend to feel the loadings are pretty good for Qantas, still lots of pent up demand, so maybe we won't get a DSC this year, maybe later in the year.

Did anybody notice a mod having some fun late last night in response to my post when the title of this thread was "will Qantas have an Autumn 2023...".

They've changed it back I see.
there is still 2 weeks of March to go :-) Usually the DSC promo drops without much notification if any.
