Will Qantas respond??

I'm with you Matt.VA just doesn't fit well with our travel style and plans.Certainly both I and mrsdrron have applied for status match and will give them a go but there is still a lot of work for VA to do.
How will these alliances work? Will you always have to be chasing points? How easy will redemptions be on partners with many more elites competing for them?
As to redemptions as I have said before we go for long haul premium cabin redemptions.VA does not appear competitive yet.One of the major complaints you see re QFF is the lack of premium awards to the USA.Looking through the VFF site cheap J awards to the USA appear no more available on VA than QF.What I like about the QFF awards is that if a classic award to LAX in J is available you can usually get a JASA for~96000 miles +$450.A no brainer.Effectively costs you 80000 miles with $450 getting you 180 SCs-$2.50 a SC and 15% on your way to requalify WP whereas VA anytime awards remain the same high mileage cost and get you diddely squat.
I can see the attraction of offering complimentary status in other programs and many will switch because of this-QF have burnt there bridges in this area and doubt they can respond-eg pulling out of mileage transfers with various hotel chains.
For me though these offers have no value.Hertz and Europcar have burnt their bridges with me and Avis has treated me well so not going back.SPG plat to me is much better than HH diamond-cant possibly keep 2 programs at top level and I am quaranteed HH gold for a long time hence again not a drawcard.
Certainly some of the family benefits are attractive especially to younger flyers and those just starting out on their FF adventures.Long term this could spell trouble for QFF.We may very well take advantage of the sharing of miles/SCs and keep mrsdrron at gold for the future.

So personally I would see QF hopefully getting priority boarding right as they have promised but otherwise I see them adopting a wait and see approach.I think that it is likely quite a few of the jumpers will find the grass no greener and come back to QFF.In the meantime hopefully we can enjoy less competition for some of the benefits.

As always we all have our own priorities, wishes and experiences and 1 FF program cant be everything to everybody.

Interesting, anyone got a scan/photo of this that they can upload?

Too big for my home printer to scan - but copy is "We're always looking for ways to reward our most loyal customers. That's why we're building an even better Qantas FF program that offers new benefits and more opportunities to earn and redeem points. Welcome to the new spirit of travel."

Picture is of a guy in a suit just back (?) from a trip - bags just within frame - in lovely house, bending down to his twin baby girls sitting on the floor looking up at him & he has two teddies for them behind his back.:)

I would like a Teddy Bear :)

Well that sounds interesting.... Look forward to hearing more.

I'm more than prepared to give Virgin yet another go so have applied for the match. I'm not too excited though so just moderating my expectations given much of what they have promised is still only partially delivered.

Unless they fix up their award redemption rates especially with international partners (as other posters have already pointed out) I won't be taking them too seriously.

But I know this is happening slowly, so prepared to wait a bit. They've made the decision to not expand internationally in a big way with their own metal so they need to make sure their partners are giving them decent access and rates. Some of the proposed SQ rates floating around in the other threads for example are pretty ridiculously priced.

Will keep waiting! And also looking forward to seeing what QF do.

I thought it was Karl from the today show on first look!

Will they respond? Yes definitely & hard - if the full page Advert on page 10 of today's Sun Herald "There's a new a spirit of reward" is any indication.

Yep looks like QF is going to play hardball if the ad today is any indication.

I'm not sure of the legality of sending men in suits, with teddy bears, to people's houses with, what looks like, the intent of kidnapping children. If I had young kids it would probably frighten me enough into sticking with QF.

:p

There is no doubt QF will respond.

The biggest question though would be 'How will they respond and how quickly?'. They can only play the 'Spirit' card for so long....
