It must be synchronicity but I was planning on opening a special/nice bottle around then anyway! A very generous gift of some of Warrabilla's finest has made its way to me thanks to one of our fellow members (who wishes to remain anonymous) and I shall finally get to try one of their 'take-no-prisoners" style reds this weekend, will it be the Parous Shiraz or the Parous Durif hmmmmmm....:p

As an aside Wendouree are raving about the 16s - must load up on them at release then consider slowing down - a friend called them recently and got straight on to the list - great marketing case study!

I agree that $200 is on the pricey side, will depend on what 10 wines they have on tasting as to the value it represents. On the mailing list side I also know of 2 people who called up last year just before it came out and got sent an order form and were able to purchase, albeit not everything they ordered. Not quite as exclusive as some make it out to be.
 
The Wendouree and Rockford have sold out when I looked just now.

Two that remain are $950 for 6 x Grange or $350 for 6 St Henri - neither of the prices seem very cheap to me....

I think I could put on a tasting of 20 vintages of Wendouree for much less than $200!

I just got an invite to the Hobart Cellardoor.co wine fair, $20 to taste over 70 wines inc '12 Grange, '06, '09 & '13 WB Black label and '13 Wynns Michael.

I think I will go, I can buy up to 4 tickets - any other Tassie AFFers going or interested in attending?

It was a bummer but I've had to decline (family commitments) looking forward to hearing Steady dig the dirt and do a full and frank breakdown of what was on offer though!

Cellar Door March 2017 Hobart Wine Fair

I was excited to see cellardoor.co had a wine fair in Tassieso jumped onto some tickets almost immediately.
CD.co have many TWE wines that I had not had a chance to try,so I figured this would be my chance. I went through their online offerings andnoted down my wish list, it came in at 32 wines J
On the night I was handed a catalogue of wines available fortasting, I went through and marked the ones I had preselected and worked out atasting plan. 20 of the 32 were available… Not much swallowing – lots of waterand occasional water cracker. I was worried about the number so got stuck inand didn’t waste much time on those that didn’t impress immediately - I gotthrough the planned list with 20 minutes to spare so went looking for others andretasted those that I really liked. The Grange taste was on exchange for a cardgiven on entry – At the end of the night there was half an unopened bottle leftso I hung around the Penfolds table and spotted the 389, and also managed asecond taste pour of the Grange - at 60 seconds before last pour when they kneweveryone who has a token had has their chance. I didn’t take flavour notes,just recorded a score out of 10, with 5 as average – 10 as perfect.

The wines I really enjoyed were; Grange, St Henri, Drumborg Riesling,Saltram No.1, St Johns and Michael. The 2 WB CSM’s, and 389 were also notablefor me.
I was expecting more from the St Peters and 3 x Linderman’s

To wrap it up, the pours were very generous – too generoussometimes and I felt guilty tipping so much into the spittoon. Most of thestaff seemed very knowledgeable about their range but it seemed like they werealso looking after a label on their table they were not so familiar with. Somewines had an extra discount on the night – that said I didn’t buy anything (my 2 guests picked up a case though) I spent 20 minutes savouring the second taste of Grange after they stopped serving and were taking orders, it was divine with a very full body and long finish, complex, deep, balanced, juicy, powdery fine tannins, moorish. Shame it is well out of my price range.

I thoroughly enjoyed the night and feel it was a bargain for the $20 entry fee

Excellent. I approve of all of these. Especially 4 & 6. 6 a little young yet.

I went to a Cellardoor wine fair in Melbourne in 2016 - also thought it was a bargain for $20. Might go again.

Interesting that the range seemed to be different between the one you went to and the one I went to - I was able to taste all of the Wolf Blass wines you noted weren't available.

Interested in a couple of your ratings ... why did you rate the Leo Buring Clare and Eden Rieslings so low? And why was the Drumborg Riesling so much better? I haven't tasted the Drumborg, but thought the Leo Buring was very good.
