Woolworths gift card thread

My purchase of 4 x $500 cards required the attention/intervention/approval of four staff members. Took 15mins. Points posted within an hour.
I went to buy 4 more. Despite above warnings tried to buy all in one go
30 minutes later (register crashed, manager had to be called at home to authorise a refund) walked out with just the one 😳

I'd usually do this, but there's a weird exclusion in the T&C about 1 transaction per day, and while I am pretty sure it's not enforced I didn't want to throw away $8 testing it out. Would be interested to hear from others if this goes okay for them.

Reading it again it's clear they're trying to say that you can't use multiple transactions per day to get around the 10 card limit but it's just confusingly worded enough that I kept to one transaction just incase.
Bough 8 x $500 earlier today. Did each in a separate transaction. I told the cashier to do it this way as the system might collapse otherwise. No issues. All points posted as expected.

Went to my local Woolies today on the Gold Coast. They had loads of the cards, but I only bought one, loaded $500. I noticed the 5000 points appear in EDR straight away, it even said on the bottom of the receipt that I'd just earned 5000 points in this shop.

Given the card is an EFTPOS card where you select savings account, does that mean you can withdraw cash out when you use it to pay at a retailer that offers cash out?

Unfortunately not, it only accepts 'purchase' transactions, not 'withdrawl' transactions.
There used to be methods around this but I'm not aware of any that still exist.

Definitely not.

Can you use EFTPOS at Australia Post for Postbillpay? Would be a great way to use those cards.

You can, however there's various stories around of AP not being prepared to split payments (if that were necessary) and/or not being too happy about the use of gift cards, but frankly I don't publicize it at all, I just swipe and enter the PIN and I think many of the issues reported are from people who ask AP staff if they can use gift cards, and of course AP staffers might just err on the side of caution if asked.

Does anyone know if Auspost self serve terminals are currently open? They have been on and off the past couple of years.

Yes, but do not draw any attention to what you are doing.

For those still wanting and able to buy the variable-$ Perfect GCs, the optimal number to buy per transaction is 3. Anything over $2k causes the register to lose the plot.

The Woolworths I went to wouldn't sell more than $1000 of gift cards in a single transaction. Quite annoying.

I have been sticking with 1 at a time and had good results, although it does duplicate effort a bit, but no management involvement since switching to one at a time

Are there any fees for these cards? I can't see any mentioned online.
No.

Thanks for confirming. I've been holding out on buying a new phone, but these cards appear to be a good way to go. Earn 20,000 everyday reward points / 10,000 QFF points on $1,000 worth of gift cards for use at JB HiFi.
JB is a common usage for these cards.
