Woolworths gift card thread

Just a warning for anyone planning to pick up some of the Apple gift cards this week: make sure you check the cards for signs of tampering before you pay. Tampered cards are unfortunately quite common these days.

The way this scam works is that they take unactivated cards from stores, carefully cut them open at the seams (this preserves the seal), remove or replace the insert that contains the redemption code, glue them back together and then put them back on the shelves. This means that when you pay for the card you're activating a code that's not even in your possession.

The easiest way to spot this is to open the gift card when at the checkout and confirm that the serial number on the inside matches the one on the outside (see attached image).

Did a last minute run for the 20x points in gift cards. Could only get one Ultimate Everyone but grabbed a few others and points posted immediately.

Same, only I couldn't find any Ultimate Everyone. Had to settle for Ultimate Home. Points also showed up before finalising purchase at checkout.

I got Home and Him as they have stores that will be useful. Annoying that Her were not included in the offer.

Note that Woolworths only recently started replacing the old Perfect Eftpos cards with these TCN Eftpos cards so some stores still haven't switched over. Make sure you only buy the ones pictured above.

Decent profit on the variable $500s, but 2 cards per day per EDR acct.. bit of an effort

I want to do a quick $4k non-gov spend on my new HSBC cr card. Are these like the prepaid visa cards, i.e can I pay council rates?

No. Unless you have a way of paying them which allows physical EFTPOS payments and would accept these cards. They can't be used online.

Are there any gift cards available from Woollies that can be used to pay the annual renewal fee for a Microsoft 365 subscription? I know that there are Xbox cards but uncertain if they will do the trick.

Thanks.

Rethinking my approach with these EFTPOS cards. Through no fault of our own, WW's policy is making maxing out the points a painful experience.

Terms say 1 txn per day, max 2 cards. 2 cards maxed out goes over the $1k limit and the staff get prompted for business details which stresses them out.

I might just get 2 x $450 instead. Anyone else getting annoyed by this?

That's not the terms.

It's 5 cards for a fixed value and 2 cards for the variable value. There is no $1000 limit. Although you may encounter stores who randomly try to enforce this.

If so, a way around this would be to buy one card at $500 and the other for $480.

You may also want to keep a copy of the catalogue with you and show the terms to them if they try anything on with you re the $1000 limit.

You're right re my terminology, it's not a limit in the sense of a hard limit, but according to the staff it's the threshold at which they get prompted for additional information by the POS terminal. It happened to me again just now.

The terms that I am referring to are those of the promo regarding it needing to be a single transaction per day (in a single transaction). Unless you read that differently, it reads to me as max 2 per day in one txn only earns bonus points.

It's usually possible to circumvent the $1,000 limit just by loading one card with $499 or $499.99. This works despite the purchase fees bringing the total over $1,000 because the limit apparently only applies to the spendable amounts on the gift cards.

That said, I don't believe they're even enforcing the one transaction per day limit for this promotion. I bought two cards yesterday in two transactions as a test and received points on both:

I was hoping this was the case. Thanks for trying it out! I will do this going forward.

In case people haven't seen and prefer Qantas points over possible discounts, the Qantas Marketplace has just enabled Everyday WISH digital gift cards to be purchased with cash. The base rate for gift cards is 3 points per dollar (no extra points for PC/PC+). If purchased with a credit card that has bonus points for QF spend, those bonus points may also apply.

Not a brilliant return, but still a useful source of top up points in small amounts, or for those whose cellar is already full.

Thanks for the heads up.

Buying WISH via points with the discount makes a lot of sense if you usually take the cash off shop.

Also worth a thought if you value a QF point<1.1c
