Important to note with this one the bonus points *and* the 3% discount both apply if purchased through Everyday Gifting, but T&C's state that the points are based on the amount you spend after the discount has applied (i.e. you need to buy a gift card of $360.50 for $350 to get the full 2,500 points, noting gift cards have to be bought in full dollar amounts through the Rewards app).

If you want to purchase online without the discount, you'll be able to do so at https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/mothersday/c/mothersday from 9.01am AEST.

The combination of points and discount actually beats the usual discounts available through the car clubs (and other sources) so is worth bothering with for once.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I suspect that this would have caught many of us out. Not to be a pedant, but the minimum spend in your example would be $360.83, although in reality this is $361, which is no different to what your summary says.

I was caught out!

I've had good experiences using it but I could have just been lucky. That said, there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of it being accepted:
  1. Convert your physical Eftpos-based Restaurant card into a Mastercard version here. The Mastercard version can be added to your mobile wallet and is more likely to be accepted because A, it supports an additional MCC (5814: Fast Food) and B, some payment terminals have trouble with Eftpos-based gift cards.
  2. Don't tell them you're paying with a gift card. This one is pretty obvious but I see a lot of people make this mistake. If you ask staff if they accept one of these merchant category gift cards, they're likely to say no even though it very well may work.
  3. For using up residual balances, you can ask them "hey, can I pay $X.XX on one card and then the remainder on another?". It's important that you make it clear that you're still paying for the entire bill yourself and not trying to split it amongst the other members of your party. Restaurants hate doing that because it's a huge hassle working out who ordered what.
Thanks again for your advice.
I've been caught out twice when i asked for $100 to be charged to my Restaurant Card and then its been rejected because the credit card surcharge was added to the 100 dollars - ended up like $101 in total. So could not use .
Worked ok in other situations where surcharge not applied .
Does anyone have a form of words to use with the staff to avoid this happening?

Ask if there is a surcharge and then allow for it in the transaction? For example, if the gift card is for $100 and there is a 1% surcharge, you could ask them to charge $99.01 on the gift card (should come to $100 after surcharge) and pay the rest on your credit card.

If a hotel won't split the bill/amount, these cards are useless. Sadly the local restaurants I go too, the EFTPOS machine is connected to the register, so it only allows full payments :(

My Spotify card experience had a quirk
Bought the $72 option
Received the appropriate 14400 1440 points
When went to redeem couldn't do so as am on Premium family. T&Cs say standalone only 😞
Rather than waste it, I decided was worthwhile fighting with the older mstrandyes over the music (potentially broadening my usual music tastes)
On downgrading and redeeming, it appears to have extended my Premium family expiry until November (I.e at the lower individual rate).
It may still downgrade in May but hopefully a little win for me

14400 points? Pls tell me that's a typo. The Happy Dude's are getting Spotify for some years if it's not!

Decent selection of gift cards. For me the Restaurant Choice sounds appealing. One question I do have is surrounding the merchants you listed. Specifically the category of merchants includes:
“Eating Places and Restaurants (5812), Hotels, Caterers (5811), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars, Taverns, coughtail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (5813) Fast Food Restaurants (5814) Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (7011), Amusement Parks, Circuses, Carnivals, and Fortune Tellers (7996).”

Does this mean that I could use the card to pay for accomodation at a hotel or must it be used on food at the restaurant in the hotel? Similar thing for Motels & Resorts. If you don't know, that's fine, maybe I'll just use the card at a Fortune Teller to find this out along with the numbers for next week's Powerball.

They should work for accommodation but I've only seen a few reports of people doing this and the results were mixed, mainly because staff didn't like the idea of a guest using gift cards – especially a stack of them – to pay for a hotel stay.

I'd definitely have a backup plan for the gift cards if you do try to use them for this purpose.

I have just read that they have shut the portal due to hacking.

Seems to have been an issue a few weeks now, but no comms seen from the ER or WE teams??

ER app message

I'm finding it annoying that you can't just prescan the QR code on the reader from the ER app / wallet and pay using gift cards effortlessly.

Not so interested in gift cards if inconvenient to use at the checkout. Took 10 minutes today to load card details and pay at BigW due to poor mobile signal.
