re the TCN Restaurant gift cards , I am a little afraid to buy this and then go to any restaurant that takes efptos and expect it to be accepted .
Has anyone used this gift card and had success or failure ?

It's a lottery in my experience. So much so that I stopped buying them. Especially a problem with residual amounts.

I've had good experiences using it but I could have just been lucky. That said, there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of it being accepted:

1. Convert your physical Eftpos-based Restaurant card into a Mastercard version here. The Mastercard version can be added to your mobile wallet and is more likely to be accepted because A, it supports an additional MCC (5814: Fast Food) and B, some payment terminals have trouble with Eftpos-based gift cards.
2. Don't tell them you're paying with a gift card. This one is pretty obvious but I see a lot of people make this mistake. If you ask staff if they accept one of these merchant category gift cards, they're likely to say no even though it very well may work.
3. For using up residual balances, you can ask them "hey, can I pay $X.XX on one card and then the remainder on another?". It's important that you make it clear that you're still paying for the entire bill yourself and not trying to split it amongst the other members of your party. Restaurants hate doing that because it's a huge hassle working out who ordered what.

Interestingly, this doesn't appear to be the offer they originally had planned for this week. The next page contains parts of the terms and conditions for a promotion on Airbnb, Luxury Escapes and Ultimate Home cards, among others:



A similar thing occurred with the recent 20x points offer on TCN Gift, Active, Restaurant and Uber Cards; the second page had terms for a 10x points offer on Perfect Eftpos gift cards, though in that case I believe the reason for the change is that Woolworths is currently phasing out those particular cards.

Rookie error on my part - purchased the TCN Him cards in haste instead of the Ultimate card.

The bonus points are tied to your purchase of the gift card. It does not matter when or even if you spend the entire amount of the gift card. Ordinarily points are posted to your EveryDayRewards card then and there at the terminal (provided you scanned your EveryDayRewards card). Sometimes there is a delay or a day or two but that's unusual. If you don't see the points land within 2 weeks, I'd reach out to Woolies and have them look into this. There has been one or two times where the points were never credited and I needed to follow up. But again, that's a rarity coming from someone who tends to buy several such gift cards a month.

Ordinarily points are posted to your EveryDayRewards card then and there at the terminal (provided you scanned your EveryDayRewards card). If you don't see the points.......

.....on the terminal screen at purchase, I wouldn't proceed with the transaction - is my policy.
