Keen to dump my remaining Visa ONLY 1 cards just in case this issue is symptomatic of a larger problem.

Hi Dr Ralph, Id certainly be doing the same. I was speaking to a Black Hawk rep the other day. She mentioned that Aus Post have completely removed them due to fraud and she wasn't sure if other merchants were going to do the same. She was telling me that there was major fraud issues where someone had worked out that they could just take the unactivated cards from the stands, somehow activate them and use them.
 
Sounds like the Visa1 tool for earning Amex points for legitimate purchases where it's not accepted might be coming to an end.
Was stockpiling mine for next BAS. Might need to accelerate their disposal. Thanks for the insight slinky123.

Put it through entered in 500 X 10. Then supervisor comes along and gets angry and says their Is a max but she's not sure. After entering 10 cards. Payment gone through but card won't load saying refund amount exceeded.

Store manager on the phone to head office or somewhere as we speak.

Not a fun experience

Physical WISH GCs are limited to $500 per card. It used to be $1000, but that changed a few months ago.

Damn it. I didn't know that. It didn't say on the card....might have to go to another shop and do it .

I think this will get messy. As they've debited my cards but the card won't load.
 
I've managed to round up 300+ Visa1 $100 cards over the last 3 weeks. No problems with activating or using (so far 160 to the ATO). Experience in store has varied - one store will only allow me 5 per day (because "fraud"), another took a copy of driver licence (48 cards), yesterdays not a squeak (78). One made me do 4 cards per register and then move to next one (40)

It's all part of the game I suppose but 100K amex points for $760 (inc ato fee) makes it worth it. It will be a shame if it's discontinued. I'm not sure what the risks are with stockpiling more for the next FY.
 
There's always one idiot that seeks to spoil it for all.

Systems are often updated to close gaps after one person abuses it.

It takes a while to sort out. I tried to load $750 before I learned of the change and it took a supervisor to unravel the mess.

Obviously I didn't and ask for actual experiences.
The staff member didn't know either so it's obviously not common knowledge.

Also. One supervisor is now telling me it's because the system won't allow a gift card to be purchased with another gift card.

So obviously if a supervisor is misinformed ill go by what other people's experiences and what the check out person says there is no limit.

I didnt know either. Sometimes you end up 'taking a hit for the team' but thanks for letting us know

And besides if you want to play the points game hard it pays to know the rules so that one does not set of flags with staff, CSRs, etc.

With supermarkets in particular there is huge turnover with staff and so detailed knowledge is not always there etc. The good thing with that is it sometimes means that one can achieve things when one should not.

even to this day Im unsure if buying a gift card is against T&Cs or not,
as ive done it 100s of times, and so have others

one of the store mamangers told me today the system wont allow it (which is obviously so wrong)

but if they decline, Im not going to get upset, just grateful ive done it in the past

i had a win a while ago when I placed a click and collectorder at dan murphys, got the msg to pick up, went there, and they told me it was a mistake, I had ordered a 1L bottle, they only had 700ml,
here is a full refund in cash, and two weeks later, a 1L bottle arrived by courier
so a double win for me :)

The account balance has now failed for me several times, I've sent an email to [email protected]

I used up all my cards within a few weeks but glad I did, the fact that they charge you to enquire to me is borderline unethical,

hope you guys dont lose any credit, how many you got left dr ralph

and this is why im asking a lot of questions on teh amex statement thread about the HN deal, it seems there are multiple cards vpay/physical, some stores and states are different,
I have about 10 amex cards, and dont really want to end up standing there waiting for 15 managers to try and work out whats going on, while telling me off for whatever reason, like todays experience

she said, oh its $3k,

Wiser to do smaller amounts. Also, I am not sure what is the point of converting to physical wish cards.
 
why do you need so many physical gift cards? Only place that accept physical cards and not egift cards is starmart caltex
