Woolworths gift card thread

The perfect gift cards aren't efptos cards. Those kids cards on sale are efptos. So maybe there is no limit

If you look closely at the pic posted for the deal, the perfect gift card is Eftpos (as shown on bottom right of card).

unfortunately not as useful for me as only 1 Visa but still I can still make use of them.

Are there any advantages of using an eftops card for bill payments or others
It seems most places that accept Visa accept eftops but not the other way around plus you can't use eftops online

No surcharge on my council rates or water will when paying at the self serve kiosk at Aus Post.

Do you still have the ability to pay by eftpos at self serve in your AusPost office? The ones in Sydney I used to visit have disabled that function and are cash only - presumably to stop us GC 'money launderers' from making payments.

Definitely can't use the $100 eftpos cards at the AusPost kiosks. I can only assume that the $50 eftpos cards will be blocked as well.

Given you can't load up on them, probably ok to use at face to face merchants esp for smaller transactions. Likely they'd appreciate your using eftpos as a cheaper to accept payment method and we still get Amex points.

Really?????? Must be nice to be wealthy and not like free money.

I'm in the US right now and therefore will miss out entirely on this deal and am bitterly disappointed!

Oh don't get me wrong, I like free money. But a profit of $~2/card, when a limit of two and the time taken to visit woolworths and then manage/cash out is taken into account, I'm probably backwards by not spending that time at work.

i'm still working my way through the $88 CNY cards. whenever i get down to a few dollars I just pay whatever is left on my rates. always done at the self serve kiosk at auspost.

it does depend on the biller though. BCC and urban utilities work. QLD rego doesnt. AMEX paper bill doesn't.

I had a bit of a diff experience in vic

The $88 cards worked in march at self serve kiosks without a problem
However the few rates with lots of restrictions eggs no Amex. No PayPal. Surcharge for visa. No post bill pay. Only their Web portal. I couldn't even do self serve as it kept on saying. Pl take to desk.

And I didn't want to pay with multiple cards so ended up using my visa card

Post #7550 in the ATO thread has an ominous note seen in a post office about giftcards. Not sure if it's everywhere or if the self-serve has been disabled as I've not used in last 6 weeks. It has been my main use of myperfects

Exactly. Free money is only free if it is given to you with no effort, or cost, on your part. In chasing points or cash I always factor in my time (that is total time to gain the points/ cash including any travel and also any car expense etc). Being self-employed I can easily work more and make more money, and I can do that 24/7 anywhere in the world if I have data or phone access.

I guess if one is employed it may be for some extra money that they cannot otherwise gain and so their "time-point" will be different. For me it is always more time on my business (or investments) vs time of gaining/or using points).

What our time is worth is different for each of us.

And yes being a points nut I also sometime chase points/cash when logic says that I should not.;) But when it is just cashback I tend to be quite ruthless about it. For example there are no Westfields near me, and so a Westfield deal has to be very lucrative to make it worthwhile in my case.

I have also been able to use the $88 cards at the AusPost kiosks. I guess they were never blocked being a limited edition batch of cards.

How long ago did you last use the AusPost self serve kiosk? Which POs have you been using? Eftpos has been disabled at my regular POs in SYD CBD most of the year now.

So for the12/7 $50 eftpos offer..... Do you think we will get the bonus straight away? Therefore to buy 5 cards will need how much Woolies ecards? $55.95 first card + $203.80 for rest =$259.75?

Been using perfect gc at local PO for strata Deft payments. This lady knows me well enough after numerous payments. We do split payments so I only incur a once off $2.75 Deft surcharge. Still worth it when the single strata bill is over $500 and some over $1k.

Well today walked in and she said head office left a memo telling them not to accept these gift cards.

Another bigger PO can do self serve but wont be viable with $2.75 taken off every $100 gc payment as I can't (or don't know how to) split payment on the self serve.

Anyone knows how to split on self serve?

I'm a bit confused how you avoid the payment surcharge by splitting payments. ....

I'm reconsidering thus deal now that a few have reported non Aust post acceptance.

It will be a royal pain to have a stack of $50 cards that are eftpos

Previously, some operators at POs would allow you to mix payments for some transactions, i.e. pay $50 cash and $50 card to pay a bill. Multiple transactions on card are a similar concept, but some systems don't allow

Can always use at cafes etc - but then you have to keep track of balances (annoying)
