Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

I have in mind to send my new card back (when it comes) with an explanation of why I am abandoning them - just for the fun of it.

The new card came today, will compose my letter tomorrow and send it back Wednesday. Doubt I will get a reply.

There's something strange going on. Our qantas accounts have 3,000 point deductions for woolworths $20 gift cards. I'm on hold with qantas.

The accounts with deductions had EDR fuel offer set to points instead of discount. The unaffected qantas account has EDR set to fuel discount. May or may not be coincidence with woolworths split.

My account has always been set to fuel discount. When I log in to the new site, I can't find this option.

I have stopped scanning my WWR card when getting things at WW they ain't getting no free marketing data off me!

Sorry to disappoint you, but they're getting it anyway (they link your purchases to the credit card you use).

Only way of getting around it is to use cash unfortunately.

Quantium are pretty good at this stuff.

How much information can they get by tracking your credit card? And what is this information actually used for?

I'm using my Ww card at Coles... See how that works for their data matching - they might also see I am traveling 1km further... 1000pts in Coles vouchers this week on a $45 spend - a lot more than loony dollars

Personally it is the only way I can accumulate QFF points so disappointing if they do alter or cancel the partnership.
Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas Frequent Flyer Points credit cards - Australian Business Traveller

Do you mean it's the "only" way you can accumulate QFF points? Or it's the only way you can accumulate significant QFF points? I'm thinking Credit cards that earn points anywhere you shop would be a logical start. Along with say flying! :-)
I'm sure there are plenty of other options?

I'll do partial pays on several cards just to annoy :p

I just visited Woolworths for the third time since they brought in the new program.

Still haven't earned a single cent worth of itchy & scratchy money.

Matt that's three visits to many :)

I pay cash now so the EDR card can go in the bin, nothing to see here any more.

They did send out a survey months back and I did tell them the main reason for using Woollies was the QF points, oh well over to Coles.

Checked my account this morning - still the same.

My acct is (was?) set to receive points for Petrol.

re: Autorewards opt-in.

I ripped it up EDR who claim it's a Qantas problem. So I rang FF who advised that I have been opted in online, and I told them I didn't, and I want my points back and gift card cancelled. The lady advised her supervisor would look into it and they would be in touch.

I'll give them 48hrs and ring again. Then I'll be cancelling my WW Rewards card.

re: Autorewards opt-in.

Just off the phone with Qantas. It is a known system issue where a number of people have been opted in on 20 Aug. Staff received an email confirming an issue and it is under investigation. They would not be drawn on whether it was related to the WOW split.

Please don't take it out on the staff. Management is the problem.

It's more taking it out on the people behind you in the self check out queue.

Although with wish cards I'm normally doing at least two transactions, if not three.

Looking at the Catalogue for tomorrow. Not one of the Itchy and Scratchy money offers are appealing.

At any time in the past few years that you've paid with a credit card and swiped your EDR card, they've linked the two so that even if you don't swipe your EDR card they'll still attribute the purchases (and therefore market data) to you.

Over time, the algorithms can update to exclude a card that is then used more frequently with another account (e.g. if your Mum swipes your EDR card a couple of times when paying with her credit card, but then goes back to her own account) but generally speaking they will have linked your credit card to a profile they've built of you.

They do this whether you signed up for EDR or not - each credit card will have its own shopper profile...EDR helps them to understand households better because they can link multiple credit cards/individuals to the same account.

In terms of what the information is used for....could be anything! Obviously at the simplest level, they're trying to find offers that drive incremental revenue. But the data analytics and insights can drive supermarkets to make quite interesting decisions. The classic example goes that analysis of late night shopping patterns (in the US) threw up an odd combination of nappies and beer in some supermarkets. Turned out that men running out for new nappies at night that had to walk past beer to get them were making incremental purchases of beer. Hence, some supermarkets would be redesigned so that you had to walk past beer to get nappies.

The Homer Simpson analogy. Perhaps the men really wanted beer all along but buying the nappies would keep them out of the dog-house when they returned home since Mrs Simpson would see that they were obviously concerned for the welfare of the family.

Ditched Safeway (Woolworths Pty Ltd!) Early last month or so. All because my fuel points were not transferred over the previous month or more. (Kept receipts, even have a fuel logbook: to the decimal litre!).

They manually provided 750 qff (more then I knew i was missing), but that was the straw.

Fuel is now BP (just now building bp points up), shopping at coles from now on.

Points in the 100's or 1000's each week for so little spend!

Edit: might add - photo below also had triple points voucher as well as spend $50 over 3 weeks.
